lone track members qualify for state
Five lone girls and
six boys qualified for the
state track meet at last week
end's Big Sky District meet
in Moro. In a season where
w ind and chill w ere the
norm , the C ardinals took
advantage o f a near-perfect
track day to advance their
state qualifiers and record
a number o f personal bests.
The top two placers in each
event automatically qualify
for the State 1A track meet,
set for next Friday and Sat
urday in Monmouth.
Senior Kylee Svetich
had a strong day advancing
to state in the triple jump,
200 meters and the 4X100
relay. A hiccup in her plans
came when she flinched at
the start of the 100, causing
her to be disqualified from
that event where she was
sitting second in the district.
However she was able to
channel her disappointment
into a strong run in the 200
where she finished second
and set a new PR (28.31.)
“ F alse-starting made me
want to do better," she said.
“It's my senior year and I re
ally wanted to finish strong.”
She also recorded a PR in
the triple jump (32-2) where
she placed second behind
Kaitlyn Muller of Helix.
F r e s h m a n B e th
Morter was the only indi
vidual district cham pion,
winning the 1500 in 5:46.48.
She was also a surprising
second in the long jum p

second improvement over
th e ir season best. Team
members are Matt Hams,
Justin Archer, Clay Morter
and Cory Peterson.
Individually, Junior
Clay Morter cleared 6 ’0 in
the high jump to take second
