The lone track team
tuned up for the pre-district
meet last Saturday at the
Big Sky Invitational in Con
don. With most o f the teams
present that will be compet
ing at district, the Cardinals
found some bright spots and
some areas to improve.
Beth Morter was the
only individual winner on
the day, winning the 1500
in 5:51.71. Leading wire to
wire, M orter’s time was not
a PR but she ran with some
authority and finished 200
yards in front o f the rest of
the field.
The g ir l’s 4X 100
team, consisting o f Sarah
Stillman, Tiana Camarillo,
Kaylee Palmateer and Kylee
Svetich, took first place with
o f 57.22. The boy’s 4X100
team , ru n n in g w ith tw o
substitutes filling in for in
jured and ill regulars, placed
second after South Wasco's
anchor leg pulled up with
the finish line in sight. Kylee
Svetich ran 13.48 for sec
ond in the 100 meters and
Sarah Stillman was second
in the 800 at 2:48.99 after
Emily Funkhouser, one o f
the state’s best all-around
runners, suffered a near col
lapse at the end o f the race.
“Overall, 1 thought
that everyone perform ed
well at p re-d istricts. We
had 10 personal records,
including Luke Bradfield
improving his discus throw
by over 12 feet and Justin
Archer improving over 11
a time o f 54.76. The boy’s
4X400 squad beat a field
depleted by a couple teams
departing for their respec
tive proms but set a season
best o f 3:53.93.
Second place fin
ishes, which if all things
stay the same would be state
qualifiers, were recorded by
a number of Cardinal com
petitors. Clay Morter didn’t
miss in the high jump until
he w ent out at 6 ’0” . His
5 '1 0 ” jum p was good for
second place.

feet in the ja v e lin ,” said
Coach Ryan Rudolf. “Our
boys’ team should compete
for the district cham pion
ship, while the girls have a
shot at placing second. Ev
eryone has worked hard this
season and I expect some
good perform ances at the
district track meet. We have
several athletes who should
compete for not only a spot
at qualifying for state, but
an individual district title
as well.”
