in Bond, majoring in Police
Science while continuing
his full-time service as a
patrolman.
In 1979 he relocated
his family to Prineville,
after he was offered a posi­
tion as a detective with the
local police department.
Sample served for eight
years with Prineville and for
six of those years he was a
supervisor until moving to
Boardman.
Service is something
that Sample is very proud
of. Since 1990 he has been
involved in the law enforce­
ment fundraising for the
Special Olympics through
the Law Enforcement Torch
Runs. Approximately nine
years ago he added golf
tournaments to the Spe­
cial Olympics fundraising
he hosted for Morrow and
Umatilla Counties.
“Morrow County is
my home,” Sample stated.
“I want good things for
Morrow County and 1 am
looking forward to con­
tinuing my service to its
citizens.” Larry Sample has
demonstrated his hard work
and loyalty through his long
career stating “It is not about
fancy talk, it’s about leader­
ship, integrity and caring.”
Sample and his wife
Sharon, who recently retired
from the Morrow County
School District, have been
married for 44 years. They
have two adult daughters
that are married, one liv­
ing in Prineville and one
living in Albany. They are
also very proud of their tw o
grandchildren.
O’Senior Center to host
breakfast and soup feed
Sagebrush, shepherds, sheep dogs, and band of sheep were com­
mon sights on the early Boardman Range area of north Morrow
County.

St. Patrick's Senior Center will host a breakfast
on Saturday, March 15, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Breakfast
will include ham and eggs, and biscuits and gravy. The
cost is $5.
From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Corol Mitchell’s
Irish potato soup will be served with homemade fruit
cobbler.*The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12
years and younger.

The daring drivers determined to go from south to north Mor­
row County had to remain undaunted by sand and sagebrush if
they were to reach their destination.

at Heppner High School.
Two other children, John
Paul and Claire Michelle,
are deceased.
St. Patrick's Church
in Heppner has a long tradi­
tion of presenting a com­
munity ham dinner in honor
of St. Patrick’s Day. The
Larry Lindsay Family has
provided Irish musical en­
tertainment at this dinner for
the last 32 years. Additional
grandchildren keep adding
to the assortment of instru­
ments.
The Lindsay Ranch
has been transformed from
a dry land wheat farm to an
irrigated enterprise with the
goal of feeding cattle for
a specialty market. Larry
Lindsay has also devoted
over 40 years to service on
the Morrow County Port
Commission because of
his deep interest in the eco­
nomic development of this
very special county. His
admiration and high regard
for the early pioneers, es­
pecially his Irish ancestors,
has inspired a determination
to continue their efforts to
improve living conditions
for all the families of Mor­
row County.

The July 1,2007-June
30, 2008 Fiscal Year award
to Morrow County from
Oregon Cultural Trust was
$ 5170.00. Morrow County
Cultural Commission met
March 4 at the Port of Mor­
row to review applications
and award funding. Cultural
Trust Funds were awarded
according to funding goals
developed by a Morrow
County cultural coalition in
2005. he goals and awards
are as follows:
1. Economic Devel­
opment: Integrating arts,
culture and heritage into
county and community de­
velopment and redevelop­
ment efforts. $2500.00 to
Boardman Cemetery Dis­
trict. To match a Morrow
Co. Needs & Issues grant for
beautification improvements
including a memorial area to
Sam Boardman, planting
trees, adding a new wrought
iron fence across the front,
and directional signs to the
cemetery. Project estimate:
$15,000.00. 2. Financial
support for cultural activi-
