Lindsay named as Grand Marshal for St. Pat’s festivities As is the tradition for the St. P atrick’s C el ebration, a grand marshal is named each year for the (ireat Green Parade. This year is no exception with the honor bestowed on Larry Lindsay o f Lexington. Larry Lindsay was born in 1937 as the only child o f Alex and Rosella Lindsay o f Lexington. His mother, R osella, was the daughter o f Barney P. Do herty and C atherine D o herty. Barney Doherty, a ed portions o f the legendary John S heridan Kilkenny sheep em pire. Sample is no strang er to the Morrow- County Sheriff’s Office where he served for 17 years until his honorable retirem ent in 2004. In 1987, Sample began his career in Morrow County as a patrol deputy. Upon completion of his first year, he was assigned to the regional drug task force. There he worked narcotics for 10 years and received a promotion to D etective Sergeant within the agency. During this period. Sample also supervised the west end drug task force, w orking with multiple law enforce ment jurisdictions to combat drug traffic in Northeastern O regon. In 1999 he was prom oted respectfully to Undersheriff and remained serving the communities o f Morrow County until his retirement. Sam ple's career in law enforcement began in 1970 when he volunteered for the Cornelius Police De partment as a reserv e officer at the urging o f a friend. Cornelius is located about 20 miles west o f Portland with a population o f about 10,000. He continued to serve as a reserve officer w ith C ornelius for more than three years. In 1974 Sample be gan his full-time law en forcement career after mov ing to M adras, w here he served as a patrolman for five years. During that pe riod he also attended Central ( )regon Community College -Continued on Page three According to the policy, cell phones and pagers must be turned o ff during instruc tional or class time, dur ing passing times between classes and at any other time when use of the dev ice would cause disruption o f school activities. Camera phones must not be used to take photos or videos while on district property or w hen the student is engaged in school sponsored activities unless authorized in adv ance by the building principal or other designated authority. W hen asked why the district did not just ban cell phones completely from district schools, board Chair Craig Miles replied that par ents buy the phones for th* r children so they are able communicate w ith them. According to policy exceptions may he made for health, safety or emergency reasons with prior approval or when use is allowed un der the student’s "indiv idual education program."
