The Lexington Volunteer Fire Department was presented with a plaque o f ap
preciation at the town council meeting last Tuesday.

The award was sponsored by Jim and Yung Nelson o f Lexington for work the
fire department did in burning an old structure in Lexington.
“To the chief and all fire fighters who took part in burning o f the old house that
was a hazard to the community on 28 January, 2008. Our sincere appreciation to
all who took part, Jim and Yung Nelson,” the plaque read.
A plaque was also presented to the Heppner Fire Department for assisting with
the burning.

liam and Eva Mae Duran.
Her parents preceded her in
death along with her brother,
Walter Duran (died 2001);
her second husband, James
Campbell (died 2003); and
her third husband David
Norris (died 2003).
She is survived by
her first husband, Joel Bar-
nett and their children, Ran
dall Barnett, Roger Barnett
and JoJean Hamilton; four
grandchildren, Esther Rae
Barnett, Stephanie Barnett,
and Robyn and Jonathon
Huselton; six siblings, De-
lores M cQ uigg, Frances
Myatt, Viola Cable, Almeda
(Ami) Caudill, Evangeline
(Kay) Blackmon-Kelly, and
James Allen (Al) Duran; and
a host o f cousins, nieces,
n ephew s, and c o u n tless
friends.

for the Telephone Company
and continued her education.
She then married Joel Bar
nett in 1953. They returned
to live in lone in 1955. She
spent part o f her life living
in Alaska, New York, and
K ennew ick, Tacoma, and
S eattle, WA. She w as a
caregiver for the later part
of her years until she retired.
She was also a member o f
the Heppner Seventh-Day
Adventist Church.
Marlene was a per
son o f many talents. She
was an excellent seamstress,
made many quilts over the
years and was an avid ge
nealogist. She loved to do
research on family histories
and volunteered her time to
help others.

will be felt by all the lives
she touched and rem em
bered for her positive spirit
in life. A graveside memo
rial service is scheduled for
2 p.m., March 1, 2008, at
the Lexington Cem etery.
