Lady Cards
notch second
league win
The lone Lady Car­
dinals notched their second
league win w ith a hard-
fought victory over Echo on
the road on January 8.
Down 9-2 at the end
o f the first quarter, the Lady
Cards battled back to within
one at the half, 14-15. Emily
Rietmann had seven points
in the quarter and Kaylee
Palmateer connected on a
big three-pointer with about
one minute to go to keep lone
close. On the first possession
o f the second half, Echo’s
Elizabeth Ferge swished a
three, her third o f the game
to open up an 18-14 lead.
Echo hit two more baskets to
open the quarter with a 7-0
run. Kylee Svetich hit a shot
with 4:55 on the clock as the
Lady Cards went on a 7-0
run themselves, finishing the
quarter in the same position
in which they started, trail­
ing by one, 21-22.
lone opened up a
five point lead, 27-22 in the
fourth quarter before Echo
resp o n d ed to get w ithin
two. With 53 seconds on the
clock, Brenna Rietmann hit
the first half o f a one and
one. Thirty seconds later,
Beth M orter swished two
free throws to stretch the
lead to 30-25. Echo hit a
basket and was fouled but
didn’t make the free throw
so with 14 second remain­
ing, lone led by three. With
10 seconds on the clock,
Emily Rietmann hit one of
two free throws to put the
Cards up by a much safer
four points and they took the
win 31-27.
“It was a tough road
gam e,” said Coach Ryan
Rudolf. “It was closer than
we wanted.” Coach Rudolf
thought his team played
good man-to-man defense
and “ got points and free
throw s when we needed
them.”
Emily Rietmann led
all scorers with 14 points.
Kylee Svetich added sev­

lone JV boys take two weekend wins
The lone JV team
had two strong wins over
conference opponents this
weekend, defeating Arling­
ton in lone on Friday and
downing Helix in Helix on
Saturday.
The C ardinals ran
away from Arlington early,
leading 16-5 after one quar­
ter and 34-11 at halftime.
They kept things moving in
the second half on their way
to a 60-22 win.
T anner R ietm ann
led the team in scoring with
17 points. RJ Ramos added
12. Also scoring for lone
was G unner Jessen with
eight, Alex Rietmann with
six, Luke B radfield and
Dalton Campbell with four
each and Marco Juarez with
three.
On the boards, RJ
Ramos led the way with 11
and Dalton Campbell added
eight. Ramos and Campbell
also led the team in steals
w ith six each. Gunner Jessen
had five assists.
“We finally put four
q u a rte rs to g e th e r,” said
Coach Jim Swanson. His
team shot 28 o f 55 and tal­
lied 16 assists and seven
blocked shots. He noted that
RJ Ramos had a good outing
with 12 points, 11 rebounds,
four assists and six steals in
just three quarters o f play.
On S atu rd ay , the
JV ’s led the Helix Grizzlies
24-13 at the half but held
them to just eight points in
the second half as they raced
to their third win in a row,
49-21.
Tanner Rietmann led
all scorers with 17 points.
G unner Jessen added 10.
Also scoring for lone was RJ
Ramos with eight, Alex Ri­
etmann with seven, Marco
Juarez w ith four, M ikey
Raible w ith two and Dalton
Campbell with one.
RJ Ram os led the
rebound effort with eight.
Tanner Rietmann had six
and Luke B rad field had
five. Gunner Jessen paced
the team with 10 steals and
six assists.
“ It sure feels good
to win three in a row,” said
Coach Jim Swanson. “The
kids are playing with a lot
o f passion.” He noted that
the team played very good
defense in the game. “That’s
what made things go for us.”
He also noted that Gunner
Jessen had a great gam e
overall and that Tanner Ri­
etmann and RJ Ramos pro­
vided strong leadership.
lone Varsity Boys win against Echo
The lone Cardinals
logged a strong road win on
Tuesday, January 8, against
Echo 63-32. Stretching their
win streak to five, the Cardi­
nals’ season record moved to
8-5, 4-1 in Big Sky play.
The Cards fell prey
to Echo’s attempt to slow
down the tempo in the low
scoring first quarter, lone
finally got on the board
when Clay Morter made a
shot under the basket on his
second offensive rebound of
the possession. The quarter
ended with back-to-back
Kip Krebs bank shots, both
assisted by Paul Hams, put­
ting the Cards up 9-8. In the
second quarter, Echo tied
the game tw ice but Paul
Hams’ three-pointer, one of
his three in the contest, with
4:25 gave the Cards the lead
they would never relinquish.
With 35« seconds left in the
half, Paul Hams was fouled
on a three point attem pt
and when he made all three
free throws, the half time
score stood at 26-20. In the
third quarter, the Cardinals
stretched the lead to as many
as 15 but Echo hung around,
closing the period trailing
the Cards 27-37. It was the
final quarter that the C ar­
dinals high octane offense
took advantage o f a tiring
Cougar squad, outscoring
Echo 26-5, including scores
from eight Cardinal players.
The win was punctuated by
Kevin Fowler’s offensive re­
bound putback at the buzzer
for the final margin.

assists. Hams is averaging
seven assists per game in
league play. Clay Morter had

Morter is leading the team
in boards, averaging 8.7 per
game for the season. The
Cardinals fought their way
to a 41-33 rebounding edge
over the Cougars. lone shot
40% from the floor, 31 %
from the three point line and
logged just 11 turnovers in
the game.
