C ARD OK THANKS
HEU» WANTED
Dear Family, Friends,
Classmates, Neighbors and
Good People:
This Tuesday, December
25th, our son, Roy Michael
Hale Proctor, will be celebrat
ing his 20th birthday.
He
is reaching this milestone
because of the support and
dedication of many incredible
people.
Before the diagnosis in
January, 2000, of Fanconi
Anemia that was causing his
bone marrow to fail, Roy
thought that everyone felt
as tired as he did. Now just
seven-months post-marrow
transplant, he says that he
doesn’t remember ever feeling
as good as he does now. His
immune system, blood counts
and bone marrow continue to
improve and get stronger.
The anonymous unrelated,
unmatched marrow donor
who gave Roy the ‘gift of
life’ has written him hoping
to meet someday. This will be
possible one year after trans
plant if both he and his donor
agree. Roy looks forward to
the day when he can thank his
donor in person.
Although there are many
doctor and hospital visits
ahead of him, including hav
ing all of his childhood vacci
nations over again, his medi
cal team has okayed him to
begin college in January.
Roy realizes what a great
community he grew up in and
continues to be amazed by all
the support he has received.
He looks forward to continu
ing his nursing college classes
and to resume volunteering
with children in pediatric can
cer centers.
What a difference a year
makes!
We did not travel this jour
ney alone. God was with us
every step. And during our
six-month stay in New York
City at Memorial Sloan Ket
tering Cancer Center’s Pe
diatric Transplant Center,
we could feel the support of
prayers, positive thoughts,
love, caring, and kindness
sent our way. That is what got
us through the tough parts.
We have been truly hum
bled by all the contributions
and donations so generously
given to help our family with
medical expenses.
Please accept our sincere
“Thank You” for everything;
the financial help, the spiritual
support, those who joined the
National Marrow Donor Reg
istry as potential donors, and
for hugs given and kind words
spoken. 1 wish I could think
of a better way to express our
heartfelt appreciation, but
there aren’t enough words in
the world to do so.
Merry Christmas from our
home to yours. God Bless
Everyone!
Thank you,
Mike and Kay Proctor
