Mustangs blank Bobcats 34-0 to advance to semifinals

occasion big time against
the visiting Nestucca Bob
cats, shutting them out 34-0
on Saturday, November 17.
The Mustangs scored three
touchdowns in the last five
minutes o f the game to seal
the win. The quarterfinal
win in the US Bank/Les
Schwab OSAA C lass 2A
football playoffs advanced
the Mustangs, now 9 and 2
on the year, to the semi-final
round against the Lakeview
Honkers. The game will be
played on Saturday, N o
vember 24 in Salem at Wil
lamette University at noon.
The other semi-final game
will be between Lost River
and Culver at 5 p.m. at the
same location.

Lane Bailey ran twice for 16
yards and a first down. He
then ran twice more for nine

sion for an 8-0 lead midway
through the first quarter.
The Bobcats again
went for it on fourth down
but Jordan Hatfield knocked
down the pass to give the
Mustangs the ball at their
own 44 yard line. Bailey ran
twice for 11 yards, Spencer
Palmer picked up three and

defense stiffened and they
took over on downs at the
five yard line.

free for a 22 yard gain but
the Bobcats jum ped on a
loose ball at their own 30
yard line.
The Bobcats put to

the Heppner 37 yard line.
Bailey went for 10 and a first
down and after an illegal
motion penalty broke free
for 37 yards and a first down
at the 21 yard line. After
two plays, lost yards, and a
penalty, Holland picked up
13 yards. But it was short of
a first down and the Bobcats
took over on their own 21
yard line.
The defense took the
scoring into their own hands
as Wellman picked off a de
flected pass and rambled 30
yards for a touchdown. The
two point conversion failed
but the Mustangs led 22-0
with 4:50 left in the game.

there, though, as on the Bob
cats’ first play, following the
kickoff, N acho Elgueza-
bal scooped up a fumble
and sprinted 41 yards for a
touchdown. The two point
conversion failed but the
Mustangs had a comfortable
28-0 lead.
On the Bobcats’ next
possession, Hatfield picked
off a screen pass and ran
60 yards for a touchdown
to end the scoring at 34-0
with the Mustangs picking
up their eighth shutout o f
the year.
The defense was led
by Wellman w ith 20 defen
sive points. Dennis Kenny
picked up 17 points, Wacy
Coil had 14 points, Elgueza-
bal had 13 points, Sam King
had 11 points, Hatfield and
Holland each had 10 points,
and VanDoorn had eight
points.
Bailey proved to be

rushing 32 times for 194
yards with Eckman running
seven times for 34 yards.

Heppner FFA selling food product line
Heppner FFA is currently selling a line o f food
products from a company specializing in delicious, healthy
ingredients primarily from the Pacific Northwest. Buck-
board Provisioning of Sisters emphasizes “Our suppliers
are family-owned businesses committed to organic ingre
dients, sustainable production and fair trade practices.”
The items include 10 different bread type mixes,
such as zucchini bread, molasses cookies and blueberry
flapjacks, fruit spreads make from organic Willamette Val
ley berries, healthy snacks such as trail mix, dried fruit mix
and beef and buffalo strips. There is also a line o f premium
teas, coffees and hot cocoa mix.
FFA students will be contacting some people di
rectly, however, a convenient on-line catalog and order
form are available. FFA members would also appreciate
people passing on this information to anyone out o f the area
