local businesses
Anyone running a busi
ness these days knows how
hard it is to make the busi
ness successful and profit
able. Now there is some
help for local business peo
ple who want to learn more
about how to make their
small business more suc
cessful.
The Willow Creek Eco
nomic Development Group
is teaming up with The
BMCC Small Business De
velopment Center (SBDC)
and the Bank o f Eastern Or
egon to offer financial help
for businesses who want to
enroll in a program to help
with problems like record
keeping, marketing and
personnel management.
SBDC offers the one
year program for $660, but
through a special arrange
ment SBDC has reduced
the cost o f the program to
just $425 for the nine semi
nars. Local businesses will
not have to pay the entire
cost however, because WC-
VEDG is offering small
business scholarships of
$150 and the Bank o f East
ern Oregon is kicking in an
other $ 150 to make the total
cost to the business person
just $125 for one year of
programs, including “the
need for good records”,
“requirements o f a good
system”, “methods of ac
counting”, “how to analyze
your records” and “busi
ness planning”.
Doug Lamberson is the
instructor for the course,
and he has a BA in business
administration and mas
ter’s in economics. He has
owned two successful busi
nesses and has eight years
experience working for the
Small Business Develop
ment Center. Lamberson
has also taught a wide vari
ety o f seminars.
The management pro
gram is designed for es
tablished businesses which
have been operating for
at least one year, and of
fers
monthly
evening
workshops and individual
monthly on-site business
visits during the period of
October through June. Sev
eral Heppner businesses
have already taken the pro
gram and report good ben
efit from it.
