New system waters hanging baskets automatically
Hanging baskets gracing downtown Heppner enjoy a drink of water courtesy of the new drip
watering system installed by the city of Heppner crew.
The hanging flower
baskets on downtown Hep
pner Streets are benefiting
from a new drip watering
system installed by the city
o f Heppner crew. City of
Heppner Public Works Di
rector Brian Harmon said
that installation on the new
drip system started last week
and is expected to continue
until the end of next week.
Drip systems have been in
stalled in around 14 o f the
baskets, with another 14
yet to do.
Hannon said that the
new system will not only
save around 50 hours o f
overtime for the city, hut the
plants should end up looking
better with the consistent
watering.
Previously the flow
ers were watered by city
crew members driving from
basket to basket. This pro-
cedure took around an hour
each morning and an hour
each evening, said Harmon.
The watering system now
goes right up the pole to
each basket and is set to a
timer for 15 minutes, three
times a day. The basket wa-

tering system is on the same
system as the shmb watering
system, said Harmon.
H arm on said that
1 leppner City Manager Dave
DcMayo thought up the idea
and DcMayo and he came
up with the system.
