The Kirk Street [fridge
over Willow Creek in Hep­
pner was falling apart, so
much so that people began
to question its safety.
It was determined that the
bridge was on a city street.
Youngsters donate lemonade stand
proceeds to senior center
however, because o f city
budget constraints no one
was sure if the bridge could
be rehabilitated. That is un­
til neighbors in the area,
and even the city mayor,
stepped up to help the city
crew get the job done.

Bill Riney and Mayor Les
Paustain tore off the old
timbers covering the steel
beams o f the bridge on Sun­
day. and then with the help
of the city crew on Monday
replaced the old rotten tim­
bers with brand new ones.
"It was a great job,” said
city crew boss Brian Har­
mon Tuesday w hile looking
over the finished bridge.
"That should last awhile.”
Health District receives request from Boardman
clinic for $70,000 each year for three years

Four local girls made
a very special donation to
the Heppner St. Patrick's
Senior Center. The girls.
Sierra Robie, Nalani Stone,
Naleah Stone and Morgan
Orem earned $28.76 from
selling brownies, cookies
and lemonade at a lemon­
ade stand they had set up
during a yard sale at the
Robie home. The girls then
presented the money to the
senior center.

Health District Board, ap­
peared before the MCHD
Board at their regular meet­
ing June 25 at Irrigon seek­
ing a monetary pledge for
CRCH S from the health
district.

$70,000 from MCHD each
year for the next three years.
MCHD had just completed a
previous pledge to CRCHS
this May. contributing the
final $70,000 of $210,000
donated over the past three
years to the new ly-estab­
lished migrant health clin­
ic located in B oardm an.
The federally-funded clinic
serves the general public as
well as migrant workers and
their families.
G lenn did not re ­
lease the CRCHS budget,
but did say that CRCHS had
$320,000 in cash reserves
for operations, $100,000 in
cash reserves for its building
fund and $100,000 in cash
reserves for equipment.
He said that the city
of Boardman had approv ed a
