Heppner High School 2007 graduation
awards and recipients announced
In
a
warm
auditorium full of family,
friends and teachers, the
HHS Class of 2007 made
their last walk as high school
students on Saturday, June 2.
Many scholarships were
awarded to the graduates
this year. The awards and
recipients are as follows:

Fund recipients announced
The
selection
committee for the Carl W.
Troedson Educational Fund
has awarded grants-in-aid in
the amount of $ 1000 to the
following Morrow County
high school seniors for the
2006-2007 school year:
Heppner
High
School - Aaron Allstott;
Justin Delveaux; Roland
Farrens; Stephanie Howard;
Mahaley Huddleston;
Brendan McElligott; Casey
O'Neal; Quinn Peck; Sarah
Price; Regina Seitz; and
Myah Southworth.
lone High School -
Stephanie Holland; Kayla
Teague-LaRue; and William
Meulink.
Irrigon High School
- Shannara M iller and
Christina Morrison.
Riverside High
School - Candido Cornejo,
Jr.; Heather Hancock; and
Robert Turner.
These grants are
awarded from a fund
provided by the Last Will and
Testament of Mr. Troedson,
a prominent wheat rancher
of the lone area.
These students will
be eligible to apply for
renewal of their grants in the
follow ing years of their
college or training programs
provided that they maintain
good academic standing
during their first year of post
high school study.
The
selection
committee consists of the
Morrow County School
District superintendent, the
pastor of the Valby Lutheran
Church, and the Morrow
County Judge, as specified in
Mr. Troedson's will.
Award o f the
Troedson grants was
announced at the recipients'
respective high school
graduation ceremonies.
The Bank of Eastern
Oregon awarded twelve
$500 scholarships to
graduating seniors through
its Agricultural/Business
Scholarship Program. This is
the 15lh year the bank offered
this program, giving away
over $49,000. to date. One
of these scholarships went to
a Heppner High School
Senior and two were given
to lone High School Seniors.
Quinn
Peck,
Heppner High School, was
active in football, basketball,
and baseball. He is a member
of the National Honor
Society. Quinn's community
service
included
volunteering at the Booster
Club Auction, Cycle Oregon,
assistant to the Children’s
Gingerbread House project,
bingo announcer, and
coaching Colts basketball.
He is also a member of the
Hope Lutheran Church.
Quinn plans to attend
Western Oregon University
and major in business
accounting. He hopes to
continue his football and
baseball athletics while
attending school.
Stephanie Holland,
lone High School,
participated in volleyball,
basketball, and track and
field. She was a member of
the National Honor Society,
and earned numerous
academic awards; class
president grades 9-12,
served on many school event
committees, was a member
of the Spanish Club, the
Drama Club, and was an
active member of 4-H. Her
community service centered
around her church,
volunteering during church
clean-up days, Sunday
School assistant teacher, and
camp counselor. Other
community volunteer time
include participating in Odd
Fellow service project in
New York, youth track meet.
Elderly Holiday Assistance,
tractor driving school, and
volunteer
lifeguard.
Stephanie plans on attending
Oregon State University to
major in business
administration
Kayla LaRue, lone
High School, participated in
volleyball, basketball, track
and field. She was a member
of the National Honor
Society and served in various
positions on Student
Council. Her other activities
included Spanish Club,
youth group. International
Club. Drama Club, and 4-H.
School event committees
and fundraising for various
community projects included
benefit dinners, elementary
school carnival, Christmas
tree sales, and flower box
building. Kayla plans to
attend Oregon State
University to pursue a
degree in business
administration.
