DEADLINE FOR THE HEPPNER GT
IS MONDA Y at 5:00 PM
I’d like to thank everyone for
all they did after my recent in
jury. Thanks to the Hospital
crew... nurses including Sue
Walton, Linn Young, Molly
Rhea; aides and EMT’s includ
ing Peggy, Teresa, Rusty, and
Tom; Thanks to Liz, Delia, and
Sally; X-ray crew Evelyn
Carroll and Katie Walton. To
Sheridan, thanks for being there
and tucking a "Bob DeSpain”
cross in my hand before the
flight to OHSU. To Dr.
Wenberg, my deepest apprecia
tion for finding the best hospi
tal for my injuries and for car
ing for me in the midst of sev
eral other traumas that day. To
the clinic crew for holding
down the fort in my absence;
the regular staff of Linda, Nola.
Dr. Ed, Sheridan, and Dr. Al
ter, as well as a special thanks
to Shelly Rietmann, Sue Th
ompson. and Marie Henrichs
for working for me. To my
husband Greg who was there
every step of the way, along
with my surrogate mother Ruth
who took extra special care of
me. To all the other friends and
family who did chores, sent
cards, Bowers and food, and
who kept me in their prayers...
Thank You. Thanks to my
brothers and sisters for all they
did, including my Private Duty
Nurse Kathleen who came from
Wyoming. If I have overlooked
anyone, I apologize as 1 was
well medicated before it was all
over! Above all else it never
ceases to amaze me how the
staff of our small hospital can
provide high level emergency
care that rivals that of much
larger E.R.’s— I made sure ev
eryone at OHSU knew what a
special place we have in
Heppner.
Sincerely,
Trish Maben
PS. Anyone who is not an
Airlife member, please do your
self a favor and join. The small
membership fee is a small price
to pay for a service you may
suddenly need, and it sure beats
a 3-4 hour ride in the back of a
ground ambulance!

The family of Mike Armato
would like to thank the students
and staff of H eppner
Elementary School for the
bench they dedicated in Mike’s
memory. Mike had a great deal
of affection for Heppner
Elementary. He believed the
teachers were the best in the
state. He appreciated their
dedication to the students and
he was proud of his children’s
achievements while attending
HES. The bench was beautiful.
Thank you for the tribute.
The Award of Excellence is
proof that Mike was right,
congratulations!
Kim, Maggie and Joe

To the wonderful folks of the
lone Community Church.. and
the lone community: Thank
you for making my time as your
interim pastor fulfilling. As 1
reach the end of my contract
and return home to Hood Riv
er, I’d like to leave you with an
outsider’s perspective of the
things I have learned from you.
(1) With real estate it might he
“location, location, location”
but with a rural community it's
“people, people, people”.
Thank you for the reminder that
nothing is as important as tak
ing care of each other. (2)
Whether it’s 40 minutes across
town in Portland traffic or 40
minutes to Hermiston. it’s still
40 minutes. Small towns are
were. (3) Whether you attend
or not, it’s still your church.
We are here for your weddings,
show ers, m eetings, and
funerals...and you support of
our ministries. (4) Country
folk are every bit as smart as
city folk...w ith more horse
sense. Agricultural degrees +
wrestling with livestock, nox
ious weeds or the commodities
market = well rounded people.
And finally, (5) God’s love and
goodness are everywhere His
people are. I’ve lived in To
kyo, Washington DC, and Los
Angeles.. .hut how do you meet
m illions of people? lone,
thanks for welcoming a strang
er.
One of His,
Dr. Dan Armstrong,
Interim Pastor
