Piano students to perform at spring recital
Thirty-one local pi­
ano students will perform at
a spring recital at 3 p.m. on
Sunday, May 20. at Christian
Life Center in Heppner.

Mustangs sweep Bedsides

continued their dominance
of Special District 5 with a
sweep of the visiting South
W asco
R edsides
on
Saturday, May 12, by scores
o f 2 3 -l and 22-4, both
games ending in five innings.
The Mustangs, now 20-0 in
SD5 and 21-3 overall, will
host the number two seed
out of Special District l on
Tuesday, May 22 in the first
round of OSAA state play­
offs.
The

jumped out to a 5-0 lead in
the first when with two outs
Quinn Peck reached on an
error and scored on an Andre
R auch sin g le. N acho
Elguezabal singled; Bryan
Holland had an RBI single;
Wacy Coil was hit by a pitch;
Nathan K ennedy w alked
with the bases loaded to
force in a run; and Colton
Hanson scored two more
with a single.
In the seco n d ,
Dennis Kenny was hit by a
pitch and scored on a Peck
triple and Rauch had an RBI
single to make it 7-0.
T hey added four
more in the fourth when
Kennedy was hit by a pitch;
Hanson and Chance Day
walked; Kenny scored one
with a sacrifice fly; and
Rauch hit a hom erun to
score three more.
H eppner blew it
open in the fourth when Coil
sin g led ; King and Day
walked; Kenny had an RBI
single; Peck scored two with
a single; Rauch had an RBI
d o u b le; Drew Jo h n so n
scored two m ore w ith a
single; Josh Shank reached
on an error; Coil had an RBI
double; King blasted a three-
run homerun; Rauch was hit
by a pitch with the bases
loaded to force in another
run; and Johnson had an RBI
single.
Rauch w ent four
innings to pick up the win,
giving up one hit and striking
out seven and led the way at
the plate going 4-4 with
seven RBls, including two
doubles and a homerun and
scoring three times. Peck
went 3-4 with three RBIs
and scored three runs;

Johnson went 2-2 with three
RBIs; Coil went 2-3, scoring
three times; and Day scored
three times.
The Mustangs took
off in the second game early
as K enny lau n ch ed a
homerun in the first. Peck
then walked Rauch reached
on an erro r; E lguezabal
singled; Peck scored on a
balk; Coil scored two more
with a double; Brent Eckman
w alked; and K ennedy
reached on an infield hit to
score Coil and make it 5-0.
They added three
more in the second when
Peck doubled, went third on
a pass ball and scored on a
Rauch sac fly. Elguezabal
and Coil singled; Kennedy
had an RBI sin g le; and
Hanson reached on an error
as another run came home.
The Redsides scored
three runs in the third but the
Mustangs came back with
five o f th eir own in the
bottom half. Peck doubled
and sco red on a Rauch
double; Elguezabal walked;
Coil scored Rauch with a sac
fly; Eckman singled; Hanson
walked to load the bases; and
Day, Kenny, and Peck each
walked to force in runs to
make it 13-3.
The Mustangs then
put the game out or reach in
the fourth when Johnson
walked; Huddleston singled;
Eckman and Hanson each
had RBI sin g le s; King
walked; Shank walked to
force in a run; Holland had
an RBI sin g le; R auch
reached on an error to score
another; Johnson had an RBI
single; Huddleston had an
RBI single; Eckman scored
one on a sacrifice; and the
final run cam e hom e as
Hanson reached on an error.
Kenny went three
innings to pick up the win,
striking out three with Shank

Hanson the fifth as all three
combined for a no-hitter.
Coil went 2-2 with
three RBIs and scored twice;

Eckman went 2-3 with two

tournament
scheduled
The Heppner Babe
Ruth golf tournament will be
held Sunday. May 27, at the
Willow Creek Country Club.
The event will be an 18-hole,
four person scramble.
The cost is $30 per
person and includes lunch.
A caddie auction will
be held at 8 a.m. The tour­
nament will begin at 9 a.m.
Prizes will be given out at the
end of the tournament.
