A view from the hill
By Doris Brosnan
If April showers do
bring May flowers, Willow
Creek Terrace will soon be
in the midst of a cacophony
o f w onderful colors and
scents. The views, front and
back, o ffer a v ariety o f
plants, and already Joanne
B urleson has brought in
flowers and plants from the
Heppner Garden Club and
the Heppner High School
Honor Society brought some
May-Day flowers for each
resident.
April brought a va
riety of activities, as well as
rain, so residents could be as
busy indoors as they chose.
Janet Greenup and
g randchildren R iley and
Evan Kollman, and Hanna
Lovgren, and Alena Wilson
joined everyone on the 6th
for Easter-Egg decorating.
Easter Sunday saw several
residents leave for at least
part of the day with families.
On A pril 11, the
Heppner High School World
Cultures class shared some
of what they have learned
about Hawaiian traditions,
food, art work, and even the
hula dance.
M elissa A nderson,
the Mary Kay representative,
returned on April 12 to treat
everyone interested in some
foot care. Who could say
“no” to a relaxing soaking,
trimming, and massage?
Residents attended
the Willow Creek Sympho
ny Concert on April 15, en
joying the reserved seating
arranged by Shari Stahl.
They appreciated that kind
ness and the assistance as
they entered and left the bus.
A p ril w as also a
month of birthdays on the
Hill. Mary Goheen celebrat
ed with neighbors on April
1, Elmer Meligan saw anoth
er year added to the birth
day candles on April 5, and
Juanita Martin celebrated her
second birthday at the Ter
race on April 20.
This month, on the
24th, Irene Swanson will
celebrate her birthday again
with a gathering and a favor
ite treat.
May will also bring
a few more celebrations. For
National Nursing Week, the
Terrace residents and staff
have in v ited the Hom e
Health and the Hospice nurs
ing staff to join them for
lunch. A special M others
Day luncheon is planned for
this Sunday. And residents
plan to attend the Heppner
High School stage produc
tion later this month.
Sadly, next Monday
will be Duane Jones’s last
day with Willow Creek Ter
race. Duane has been one of
the most dedicated volun
teers on the Hill, especially
reliable as a Bingo caller ev
ery Monday. When he and
his wife, Kathy, move from
Heppner, the residents and
staff will miss his jokes and
cheerful smile. The residents
hope to soon be greeted for
Bingo with another cheerful
face. And they hope to soon
be able to greet another new
neighbor to Willow Creek
Terrace. An apartm ent is
available, so some view this
as an opportunity to forge
another friendship with a
new neighbor.
