Mustang J.V. scores early to beat
Pilot Rock Rockets

The Heppner Mus­
tang J.V. baseball team
jumped out to a 14-1 lead
after an inning and a half and
made it hold up to beat the
Pilot Rock Rockets on Mon­
day, April 16, in Pilot Rock.
The Mustangs will be at
home against Grant Union
J.V. on Thursday. April 26.
for a doubleheader beginning
at 3 p.m.
The Mustangs led 6-
0 after one as Chris Lien had
two singles, Sean Murray
one, and Jared Huddleston
doubled. The Rockets
scored their only run in the
bottom half but the Mus­
tangs answered with eight
more in the second. Sam
King and Murray singled.
Keenan Jack was hit by a
pitch. Quinn Chick and Lien
singled. Josh Shank had a
bases loaded triple, and
Drew Johnson singled.
Shank went two in­
nings striking out three w ith
Lien going three innings and
giving up two hits.
Lien went 3-4 scor­
ing tw ice, Murray went 2-3
with two RBls and scored
twice, Huddleston had three
RBls and scored twice.
Shank had three RBls,
Johnson scored three times,
and Chick had two RBls.

Mustangs beat Redsides

Senior Colton Han­
son blasted a grand slam in
the fifth inning to cap the
scoring as the Heppner Mus­
tangs beat the South Wasco
Redsides 24-0 on Tuesday,
April 17, in Special District
5 play in Maupin. The Mus­
tangs improved to 9-0 in
SD5 and 10-3 overall with
the win and have a big dou­
bleheader at Dufur on Sat­
urday, April 28, beginning at
11 a.m. and will be at Irrig-
on on Tuesday, May 1.
After a scoreless first
inning, the Mustangs finally
got their bats going in the
second when Nacho Elguez-
abal singled, was bunted to
second by Nathan Kennedy,
and scored when Bryan Hol­
land reached on error. Wacy
Coil singled, Hanson had an
RBI single. Chance Day sin­
gled, Dennis Kenny walked
to force in a run and Quinn
Peck hit a sacrifice fly to
make it 4-0.
The Mustangs added
eight more in the third when
Elguezabal singled, Holland
doubled. Coil and Hanson
each had RBI singles. Day
had an RBI double, Kenny
walked. Peck had an RBI
single and Andre Rauch hit
a three-run home run to right
field.
The Mustangs kept
on scoring in the fourth as
the Redsides’ pitching dete­
riorated. Day walked. Ken­
ny was hit by a pitch. Peck
singled. Josh Shank walked
to force in a run. Sam King
was hit by a pitch to force in
a run. Drew Johnson had an
RBI single, Jared Hud­
dleston walked to force in a
run and Coil and Hanson
each had RBI singles.
In the fifth, Kenny
singled. Shank reached on a
fielder’s choice. King had an
RBI single. Coil and Hud­
dleston each had RBI sin­
gles, and Hanson finished it
off with his blast to center
field.
Kennedy had five
strikeouts in two innings,
Day had four strikeouts in
two innings, and Johnson
had three strikeouts in one
inning combined on a one
hitter with Kennedy to pick
up the win.
Hanson went 4-5
with seven RBls with Coil
going 5-5, scoring three
runs, and getting two RBls.
Peck and Day were each 2-
4 with two RBls and scored
twice. Kenny was 2-2 and
scored three runs, Elgueza­
bal was 2-3 and scored
tw ice, Rauch had three
RBls, King and Huddleston
each had two RBls and
Johnson scored twice.

Banging out 27 hits
and scoring 30 runs, the
Heppner Mustangs swept
the Pilot Rock Rockets 18-
1 in five innings and 12-2 on
Saturday, April 21, in Pilot
Rock in Special District 5
play. The Mustangs, 11-0 in
SD5 and 12-3 overall, have
a big double-header in Dufur
on Saturday, April 28, and
will be at Irrigon on Tuesday,
May 1, in SD5 play.
The Mustangs put
the Rockets away early in the
first game with 11 runs in the
top of the first on seven hits,
four walks, and two errors.
Chance Day walked, Dennis
Kenny singled, Quinn Peck
walked. Andre Rauch scored
two with a double, and
Nacho Elguezabal blasted a
homerun to left-center. With
two outs, Wacy Coil and
Colton Hanson singled, Day
had an RBI single, Kenny
reached on an error. Peck
scored two with a single,
Rauch had a ground-rule
RBI double, and another
scored when Elguezabal
reached on an error.
The Mustangs were
then held scoreless for two
innings before coming back
to life in the fourth as Nathan
Kennedy walked, Bryan
Holland singled, Hanson
singled, then with two outs,
Kenny, Peck. Rauch, and
Elguezabal singled and
Kennedy doubled to stretch
the lead to 17-0.
The
Mustangs
scored the final run in the
fifth when Coil reached on
an error and ended up
scoring on a two out single
by Peck.
Day went four
innings striking our six while
allowing four hits and two
walks to pick up the win.
Drew Johnson allowed the
only run of the game in relief
in the fifth.
Peck and Rauch
were each 3-4 with three
RBls and scored three times
with Elguezabal going 2-5
with five RBls. Hanson went
2-3 scoring twice, Kenny
went 2-4 scoring three times.
Day had two RBls and
scored tw ice, and Coil
scored twice.
The Mustangs also
jumped out early in the
second game as Day and
Kenny walked. Peck and
Rauch singled, Elguezabal
reached on an error and
Kennedy’s fielder's choice
made it 5-0.
The Rockets scored
a run in the bottom halt but
the Mustangs came back
w ith two more in the second
when Peck reached on a
two-out, bloop single and
Rauch hit a left field
homerun.
The Mustangs added
another run in the fourth
when Peck was hit by a pitch
and later scored on a
ground-out by Kennedy.
The Rockets scored
their second run in the
bottom half of the fourth and
the score stayed the same
until the sixth when Peck
reached on an error and
scored when Kennedy
reached on an error. Three
more runs were added in the
seventh when w ith two outs
Hanson walked. Day
doubled. Kenny had an RBI
single, Peck singled and
Rauch scored two with a
single.
Kennedy went four
innings, striking out four,
giving up two hits and two
unearned runs to pick up the
win. Kenny went three
innings in relief to pick up a
save, striking out four and
not allowing a hit.
Rauch went 3-4 with
six RBls and scored twice.
Peck went 3-4 scoring four
times, Kenny had two RBls
and scored twice, and Day
scored twice.

Mustang JV boys sweep
Condon-Wheeler

The Heppner Mus­
tang J V baseball team had 35
hits, sweeping the Condon-
Wheeler Knights 18-7 and
23-5, both games ending af­
ter five innings on Friday,
April 20, in Condon. The
Mustangs, now 8-0 on the
year, will be at home for a
doubleheader against Grant
Union JV on Thursday, April
26.
The
Mustangs
jumped on the Knights in the
first with seven runs on five
hits. Chris Lien, Bryan Hol­
land, Sean Murray all singled
and Brent Eckman had a sin­
gle and a double in the in­
ning.
The Knights scored
two runs in the bottom half
but the Mustangs got them
back in the second when
Sam King singled and Jared
Huddleston and Murray
doubled. They added three
more in the third when Lien
doubled, Eckman singled
and King tripled and anoth­
er three in the fourth when
Keenan Jack and Quinn
Chick singled and Eckman
and Holland doubled.
The Knights scored
three in the bottom half to
get within 15-5, but the Mus­
tangs came back with three
more in the fifth when Mark
McCabe and Jack walked
Lien reached on an error,
Eckman on a field er’s
choice, Holland walked and
King singled. The Knights
scored two runs in the bot­
tom half but could not pre­
vent the game from ending
early on the ten run rule.
Huddleston went
four innings allowing six hits
while striking out eight to
pick up the win.
Eckman went 4-5
with three RBls and scored
three times, King went 3-4
with four RBls and scored
three times, Murray went 2-
4 with four R Bls, Lien
scored three times and had
two RBls, Holland had two
RBls, Jack scored three runs
and Chick scored twice.
In the second game,
the Mustangs picked up
where they left off as Lien
reached on an error, Drew
Johnson, Wacy Coil and
King singled and Huddleston
and Jack doubled to help
them to a 5-0 lead. The
Knights came back with two
in the bottom half but the
Mustangs answered with
three in the second as
Johnson singled. Coil tripled,
Murray doubled, and Jack
singled.
They put the game
away with seven more runs
in the third on three errors,
two walks and singles from
Johnson, Coil, and Murray
to take a 15-2 lead. They
added one more in the fourth
when King reached on an
error and eventually scored
on a sacrifice fly by McCabe.
The Knights scored
three in the bottom half but
the Mustangs put the game
away with seven more in the
fifth on singles by Coil, King
and Huddleston, a double by
McCabe and two singles by
Lien.
Lien went the dis­
tance on the mound to pick
up the win scattering nine
hits and giving up three
earned runs.
Coil went 4-5 scor­
ing four times with two
RBls, Johnson went 3-6
scoring four runs with two
RBls, Murray went 2-5 with
four RBls and scored twice,
Huddleston went 2-4 with
four RBls and scored twice,
and King went 2-4 scoring
five runs and driving in two.
Lien went 2-5 with two RBls
and scored twice, Jack went
2-5 with two RBls and Mc­
Cabe had three RBls and
scored twice.

lone Youth Track and Field Day held
The lone High
School National Honor So­
ciety will hold its second an­
nual Youth Track and Field
Day on Thursday, April 29.
Events will begin at
2 p.m. on the lone Commu­
nity School football field.
Children ages 0-5 years old
will compete in the 25 meter
dash. 50 meter dash, tennis
ball throw, and standing
broad jump.
Children in grades
K-3 will compete in the 25
meter dash, 50 meter dash,
tennis ball throw, and stand­
ing broad jump.
Children in grades 4-
5 will compete in the 100
meter dash, the tennis ball
throw, and standing broad
jump.
Participants and all
children will receive free ad­
m ission. Adults w ill be
charged a $1 admission fee.
Donations are welcome. All
proceeds will benefit the
Creative Care Preschool.

Surplus Property for Sale
The Heppner City has declared the following
property as surplus and available for purchase:
Metal Shelving: 71 metal shelves (3 ft x 2 ft)
with 78 upright supports (thirty-nine are 75 inches
high, and thirty-nine are 36 inches high), assorted brac­
ing and fasteners (nuts, bolts and washers).
Bids for purchase will be accepted at Heppner
City Hall. 111 N. Main Street. Heppner, Oregon until
5:00 P.M. on May 11,2007. The bids will be opened
at City Council on May 14, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. and the
sale awarded. The City Council reserves the right to
reject any and all bids. Individuals wishing to see the
shelving can contact City Hall at 676-9618 and ask
for Dave or Brian.
