Mustang JV beat Pirates
Mustangs sweep Tigerscots

All nine H eppner
Mustang J V baseball players
had at least one hit and one
RBI as they beat the River­
side Pirates 25-6 on Monday,
April 9, in Boardman. The
Mustangs, now 5-0 on the
year, will be at Condon for a
doubleheader on Thursday,
April 19, and will be at home
on Monday, April 23, for a
single game against River­
side.
The M ustangs got
two hits from Wacy Coil and
one each from Brent Eck-
man, Chris Lien. Sam King,
Jared Huddleston and Mark
McCabe as they scored nine
runs in the top of the first but
the Pirates cam e back to
score three runs of their own
in the bottom half.
Eckman. Coil, Mc­
Cabe and Keenan Jack all
had hits in the second as the
Mustangs scored five more
in the top of the second. The
Mustangs got hits from Jack,
Quinn, Chick and McCabe in
the third as they scored six
runs to make the score 20-
3. After the Pirates scored
two in the bottom of the
third, the Mustangs got hits
from Eckman. Coil, Mc-

runs. The Pirates scored their
final run in the fifth to end
the scoring.
M cCabe went 4-6
with four RBls with Coil
going 4-6 with three RBls
and scored four runs. Eck­
man went 3-5, had four
R B ls, and sco red three
times; Jack was 3-4 with
three RBls and scored twice;
M urray and H uddleston
each scored three times and
had two RBls; Lien had two
RBls and scored twice; and
King and Chick each scored
three times.
H uddleston went
three innings striking out
four and walking just one to
pick up the win with relief
from Coil who struck out
four in his two innings of
work.

The Heppner Mus­
tang baseball team banged
out 32 hits, 15 for extra
bases, as they swept the vis­
iting Weston-McEwen Ti­
gerscots 19-4 and 23-1 on a
wet and soggy Saturday,
April 14 in Special District
5 play.
The Mustangs, now
8-0 in SD5 and 9-3 overall,
will be at Pilot Rock for a
crucial doubleheader on Sat­
urday, April 21, and at home
for a single game against
Stanfield on Tuesday, April
24.
The M ustangs got
going in the first game early
as Chance Day led off with
a double and came home on
a homerun by Dennis Kenny
then Andre Rauch made it 3-
0 when he hit a solo shot
over the left field fence.
Colton Hanson led
off the second with a solo
homerun and they got dou­
bles from Justin Archer and
Wacy Coil and singles from
Quinn Peck and Day as they
stretched the lead to 10-0
after two.
The Tigerscots came
back with four runs in the
third but the Mustangs an­
swered with six of their own
as Rauch and Coil doubled
and they got singles from
Nathan Kennedy, Nacho El-
guezabal. Archer and Day.
They closed out the scoring
with three more runs in the
fourth on a triple by Coil and
singles from Jared H ud­
dleston, Drew Johnson, and
Bryan Holland.
Kennedy went three
innings to pick up the win
striking out eight and allow­
ing one hit with Day striking
out six in two innings of re­
lief.
Coil went 3-4 with
four RBls and scored three
times. Day went 3-5 with
three RBls and scored twice,
archer went 2-2 with three
R B ls and sco red tw ice,
Rauch and Elguezabal each
went 2-3 with two runs,
Kenny had two RBls and
Kennedy scored twice.
The Mustangs took
off in the second game also
as Kenny and Rauch each
had doubles as they scored
three runs in the first and
blew the game open in the
second with seven more
runs. Peck do u b led and
Rauch hit a homerun and
Hanson scored Coil with a
squeeze bunt and they took
advantage of two hit bayers
and two walks.
The

scored their lone run in the
third but the Mustangs came
back with four more in the
bottom half as Elguezabal
doubled and Peck and Josh
Shank singled. They scored
nine more in the fourth as
Kenny had a three-run hom­
erun and an RBI single and
Brent Eckman, Huddleston,
and Holland each singled.
Kenny went four in­
nings to pick up the win al­
lowing one hit and one run
while striking out five and
picking three runners off first
base. Johnson pitched the
fifth striking out two of the
three batters he faced.
Kenny also led the
way at the plate going 3-3
with four RBls and scored
four times with Rauch going
2-3 w ith five R B ls and
scored twice. Peck went 2-
3 with two RBls and scored
three times, Elguezabal and
Hanson each had two RBls
and scored twice, Shank had
two RBls and Coil scored
twice.

of the Cub Scout racers as

sportsmanship that day,” re­
ported Susan Thom pson,
Cubmaster. The following
adults helped during the

Lindsay, Carrie Grieb, Mel­
issa Lindsay, Craig Miles and
JeffThompson.
On Saturday, April
14, nine Cub Scouts, that
had qualified the week earli­
er, competed at the Oregon
Trail District Pinewood Der­
by Competition held at the
First Christian Church, in
Hermiston. With more than
50 cars competing from all
other Packs in the District,
Pack 661 Cub Scouts earned
the fo llo w in g D istric t
awards.
