The Morrow Coun

holding their annual District

April 12, at 6 p.m. at AC
H o ughton
E lem en tary
School in Irrigon. Qualifying
students in fourth through
eighth grades will gather to
take a rigorous math test to
determine the top perform
ing math students in Morrow
County.
E lig ib le stu d en ts
from each campus were cho
sen based off of a rigorous
pre-qualifying test. Accord
ing to Marilyn Post, fourth
grade teacher and Talented
and Gifted Coordinator at
AC Houghton Elementary
School, "mathematics skills
are proving to be increasing
ly important to ensure life
long employability and suc
cess. NCTM's slogan of ‘Do
math and you can do any
th in g ' c o u ld n 't be m ore
true.”
A p p ro x im a te ly

test designed specifically for
advanced math students. The
exam covers a wide array of
mathematical concepts such

Student results will
be tallied while they enjoy
snacks and punch. All stu
dents will receive a ribbon
for their participation. The
top ten performers in each
grade will receive specific
placing ribbons, and the top
performer will receive an
engraved plaque noting their
achievement.
The D istrict Math

icated Talented and Gifted

Morrow County School Dis

recognizing the academic
achievement of all students
is important.
According to There

Elementary School, “ it is
important that we provide
opportunities for students
with academ ic talents to
showcase and use their skills
in a fun. yet competitive ven
