Heppner wrestlers on a roll at first home meet

Heppner High rolled
out the welcome mat and
hosted its first ever wrestling
meet against the Sherman
C ounty H uskies, Irrigon
Knights, Umatilla Vikings,
and the Riverside Pirates.
The Heppner squad
was pumped and ready to go
and the nearly packed house
responded accordingly.
Dillon Lutcher (130) pinned
his Irrigon opponent in the
first period.

(125) cam e through,
working an opponent from
R iverside w ith a 12-9
decision in the third period.

pinned in the second period.
Chance Day (140) took on a

in the state for 3A, but he

eluded his grasp and was
pinned in the third period.
Matt Holland (152),
just back from an injury, was
valiant in effort but came up
short and was pinned in the
second period. S p en cer
Palmer (160) brought the
crow d back into it and
pinned his Pirate in the first
period. Finally, Trent Miles
(171) came through with his
first pin of the season in the
second period and capped
off a remarkable first round
with the Mustangs taking
four out of seven matches in
the history making event.
This was by far the
best-attended and noisiest
m eet that H eppner has
participated in.
HHS second quarter honor roll
Heppner High School announces their honor roll for the second quarter. To be on
the honor roll, students must maintain a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA. The following students achieved
that goal:

in the first period.
In the third round
Heppner took a couple of
wins as Chance Day flipped
his Viking for a pin in the first
period. Spencer Palmer then
toppled his Knight with a pin
in the first period.
In round four,
Spencer Palm er went up
against and Husky from
Sherman County who he
pinned in the second period.
The meet came full
circle when Dillon Lutcher
secured a win with a 7-0
decision in the third period
against a Riverside Pirate.
A fter 50 league
matches, several Junior High
Exhibition matches, and one
Coach’s Exhibition match,
the Mustangs finished with
a 9 for 21 match record and
an enthusiastic home crowd.
Mustang boys win at Irrigon

The Heppner Mustang boys took a 70-46 win over
the Irrigon Knights on Tuesday, February 6, in Irrigon in
Blue Mountain Conference play. The Mustangs, 8-5 in the
BMC and 12-8 overall, will be in Pendleton on Friday to
play Pilot Rock at around 3 p.m. with the winner to play
Union on Saturday night for the district championship. The
loser will play Saturday afternoon to determine the third
and fourth seeds to the state tournament.
The Mustangs took a 20-9 lead after one getting
eight points from Lane Bailey and four each from Nacho
Elguezahal and Matt McCabe and stretched it to 32-21 at
the half. Andre Rauch had five second-quarter points. Bailey
had eight points and Elguezahal seven in the third as they
took a 51-33 lead after three. Bailey and Aaron Allstott
each had five points and RJ Farrens four in the fourth as
they cruised to the win.
Bailey led the Mustangs with 23 points, three steals,
and three assists. Elguezahal added 13 points, five rebounds,
and two steals, Farrens had nine rebounds, nine assists,
and three steals, and Rauch had nine points, six rebounds,
two steals, and two blocked shots. McCabe had five steals,
four assists and two blocked shots, Jared Huddleston had
five assists and Justin Delveaux had two steals.
