Cardinal boys 6-2 in league play

Arlington on the road on
Saturday. The surprising
Cardinals now sport a 6-2
league record and are 10-5
overall.
On Tuesday, January
16, the C ardinals hosted
Condon-Wheeler in what is
always a competitive game.
The Cards are training their
fans that leaving early is not
a good idea as for the fourth
time this season, the game
came down to the closing
seconds and they pulled out
a two point victory, 44-42.
The early going was
all lone as the C ardinals
jumped out to a 16-4 first
quarter lead and maintained
a 12 point halftime lead, 29-
19. But the Knights never go
away easy, lone’s lead was
35-30 a fte r three and
C ondon-W heeler battled
back to take the lead in the
clo sin g m inutes. A lan

minute to go to tie the score
and Paul Hams stole the ball
and hit the lay up to put the
Cardinals back in the lead for
good.
"The Ione-Condon
game is always a competitive
game and you have to be
ready to play” said Coach
Dennis Stefani. "We had a
big lead built up early and I
thought the kids relaxed a
little too m uch w hich
allowed Condon to get back
in the game.”
Paul Hams led the
Cardinals with 12 points, five
rebounds, five steals and two
assists. Kip Krebs was also
in double figures with ten
points along w ith seven
rebounds.
"This was a great
win to get,” added Coach
Stefani. “Once again, the
team did what they needed
to do to get the win down
the stretch.”
On
S aturday,
January 20, Arlington hung
tough with the Cardinals
through the first half, trailing
just 32-35 at the half. But
the Cards ratcheted up the
defense in the second half,
holding the Honkers to a
total of 11 points to take the
63-42 win.
Kip Krebs had an
outstanding night, leading
all scorers with 19 points.
Also in double figures for
the Cardinals were Kevin
Fowler with 12 and Justin
Archer with ten.

Clay Morter each had seven
boards. Alan Rietmann led
the team with three assists
and five steals.
"The kids played a

good win for us and sets us
up for the showdown for
first place in the E ast
Division of the Big Sky wit
Nixyaawii.”
The Cardinals are
scheduled to play Nixyaawii
this Friday, January 26 at
Mission.

Mustang JV boys win two
on the road

The M ustang JV
boys game away with two
wins on their road trip to the
Wallowa Mountains taking a
54-29 win over Enterprise
on Friday, January 5, and a
66-37 win over Elgin on
Saturday, January 6, to
improve their record to 8-1
on the year.
In E nterprise, the
M ustangs led ju st 12-10
after one but a 19-2 run in
the second gave them a 31-
12 lead at the half. They
increased their lead to 43-16
after three and they coasted
through the fourth for the
win.
Braden Britt led the
Mustangs with 13 points.
Bryan Holland had 12 points
and Daulton Wellman added
nine points.
In Elgin, the teams
were tied at 8-8 after one but
Brent Eckm an had seven
points and Jason Houweling
had four points in the second
as they took a 29-14 lead at
the half. Wellman had seven

them increase their lead to
