Sheriff's Report
The Morrow County
Sheriff's Office reports han­
dling the follow ing business:
D ec. 27: M CSO
received a report from a
caller in Irrigon that she was
alone in her home and she
heard someone attempt to
gain entry in the house. A
deputy responded to the
location and searched the
residence and around the
area. The deputy was unable
to locate anyone.
M CSO received a
911 call from a residence in
Irrigon; nothing was heard,
then a male subject came on
the line and asked. “Who is
th is ? ” The d isp a tc h e r
advised it was 911; the male
subject then hung up. On
call-back the male subject
answ ered the phone and
ad v ised there w as no
em ergency. A deputy
checked the residence and
determ ined there was no
em ergency and it was a
misdial.
MCSO received a
report from a caller on 1-84
w estb o u n d o f a vehicle
broken down and a female
subject walking eastbound.
Oregon State Police had a
unit in the area and they took
MCSO deputy cited
Donald Harry Hanson. 61,
for Violation of the Speed
Limit. 60 mph in a 35 mph
zone.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r in
Heppner that it sounded like
a young pup was locked in a
c a ttle tra ile r. A deputy
searched the area and was
unable to locate anything.
M CSO received a
report from a c a lle r in
Heppner that a vehicle didn't
stop at a stop sign in an
intersection and also hit a
curb while pulling into the
bank.
M CSO received a
report from the Washington
County Jail that M iehael
Jam es M addox, 37, was
arrested by W ashington
C ounty
C om m unity
Corrections on an Irrigon
Justice Court warrant for
two counts of Giving False
Inform atio n to a P o lice
Officer. Maddox was lodged
at the Washington County
Jail, then was released on his
ow n recognizance to appear.
MCSO received a
report from a caller in Irrigon
that som eone siphoned
gasoline out of her van and
broke the top part of the fuel
line.
MCSO deputy was
out with a disabled vehicle
parked in a turn lane in
Irrigon. The driver of the
vehicle thought they were
going to lose their trailer and
stopped to fix it.
MCSO received a
hang up 911 call from a
residence in Irrigon. On call­
back. it was determined the
caller m isdialed and was
trying to dial 922. There was
no emergency.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r on
Highway 74 that a vehicle
attempted to run her off the
road. The v eh icle was
d riv in g re c k lessly and
speeding. A deputy checked
the area and was unable to
locate the vehicle.
MCSO received a
report from a caller on 1-84
westbound that items came
o ff a pickup in clu d in g
garbage bags; a bedliner
almost hit her. The pickup
kept going. A deputy
dragged the bedliner off the
road and ODOT would pick
it up.
MCSO received a
report from a caller in Irrigon
that someone was living in a
travel trailer at a location in
Irrigon. A deputy responded
and was advised a female
subject was staying with the
people at the location and

Heppner recently attended
the 40"’-anniversary reunion
o f the R eedsport High
School state championship
basketball team. Sykes was
a junior and member of the
1967 R eedsport B raves
squad that won the state 2A
championship.
Members of the
team were honored at the
Dunes Classic Basketball
Tournament Saturday. Dec.
30, in Reedsport. where they
w ere in tro d u ced to the
crowd and then treated to a
buffet and social hour later
at the Forest Hills Country
Club.
The 1967 state
to u rn am en t was held at
Marshfield High School in
Coos Bay where the Braves
beat Myrtle Point, 83-51,
defeated Amity. 81-60, and
then beat Stayton, 67-59, for
the state title. The team still
holds the school records for
most w ins in a season and for
the season scoring average.
The Braves went 23-1 and
averaged 72.1 points per
game on the way to the title.

MCSO received a
report of a vehicle stopped
on 1-84/Highway 730. It was
determined the passenger
was car sick.
M CSO received a
request for a welfare check
on neighbors from a caller in
Heppner. The neighbors
should have been out of
town but all the vehicles
w ere there and no one
answered the phone. It was
determined they were using
a vehicle loaned to them.
MCSO received a
hang-up 911 call from a cell
phone. A fem ale subject
called back and said she was
ju st checking the phone
because she thought she
might have an emergency
and wanted to make sure the
phone worked.
MCSO assisted with
a felony stop in Umatilla by
setting up at that end of
M orrow County to assist
UCSO if needed. UCSO
arrested two subjects.
M CSO received a
911 hang-up call from a
residence in Irrigon. It was
d eterm in ed to be kids
playing on the phone.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from UCSO that
Richard Simpson, 36, was
arrested by UCSO on a
H eppner Ju stice C ourt
w arrant fo r T h eft III.
Simpson was lodged at the
Umatilla County Jail.
MCSO deputy was
flagged down to report a
suspicious vehicle that had
been in the area in Irrigon.
The deputy was unable to
locate the vehicle.

Dept, received a report from

Ontario. The caller reported
that some loads are missing
from trucks. The drivers live
in Boardman and may be
stealin g

loads
th em selv es.

determ ined to be a civil
matter.

Dept.. Boardman ambulance
received a report from a
caller in Boardman that a 79-
year-old male subject fell and
couldn't get up.

Dept, received a report from
a caller in Boardman that she
was walking across the street
and her ex-boyfriend was
trying to run her over with a
truck. The male subject also
threatened to beat her up and
had threatened her before.
The c aller said she was
pregnant with his child.

Dept, received a report from
a caller in Boardman that
Christmas lawn ornaments
were stolen from his yard.

Dept, officer stopped two
male juveniles on bicycles;
the officer took the juveniles
home and taking the bikes to
the p o lice dept, as the
juveniles were riding in the
dark without a light.

Dept, received a report from
a caller in Boardman that
someone was knocking on
her door and she is alone in
the house. An o ffice r
responded to the area and
was unable to locate anyone.
The c a lle r req u ested an
officer to drive by her home
th ro u g h o u t the evening.
After further investigation,
an officer found the subject
knocking on the door and
advised him to not make
contact with the subject.
Irrigon am bulance
received a request for an
ambulance from a caller in
Irrigon for a 57-year-old
male with cancer who had
shortness of breath and chest
pains.
D ec. 28: M CSO
deputy ran a v eh icle
information request through
the DMV. T here was a
su sp ic io u s item on the
vehicle return and the deputy
attempted to find the vehicle.
The deputy was unable to
locate the vehicle.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r in

d eputy co n tact a m ale
subject at a residence to
determine if he is still living
on the property and also see
how much livestock is on the
property. The caller advised
the male subject hadn't paid
the rent for three months. A
d eputy
ch eck ed
the
re sid en ce, it ap p eared
someone was living there but
there was no answer at the
door. The caller was advised.
MCSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r on
Highway 730/Eighth Road
in Irrigon that a vehicle was
speeding and did not stop at
a stop sign. There were two
children in the vehicle; the
caller advised one child was
his and the other the driver's
child. A deputy was unable
to locate the vehicle.

advised he was checking on
a v eh icle parked at the
wildlife refuge in Irrigon.
There were multiple duck
decoys in the rear of the
vehicle.

complaint at a residence in
Irrigon. A male subject was
living in a shed in violation
of an Irrigon city code. The
male subject was contacted
and advised he must move
out of the shed immediately.
The subject said he would be
out that night.
A male subject came
into the Irrigon Justice Court
and advised that $400 was
stolen from his vehicle. The
vehicle was on his property
when the money was taken.

report from a caller in Irrigon
that his windshield was hit;
the caller advised it was not
a rock because there was no
one else on the road.
MCSO deputy was
advised there was a car
parked on Utah Street in
Irrigon that had a very strong
sm ell o f m arijuana. The
deputy was unable to locate
the vehicle.

stopped to help a stranded
motorist on Highway 730.
The vehicle was fine; the
subjects were exercising
their dog.
MCSO deputy cited
Jesus Mareano Fernandez,
45, for V iolation o f the
Speed Limit, 53 mph in a 35
m ph zone. L ater in the
evening, an officer went to
the location for a correction
on the c ita tio n but the
subject would not cooperate
so a new citation was issued.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r in
Heppner that someone left
item s in fro n t o f the
Neighborhood Center. The
caller wanted the subjects
advised that they can’t leave
items when the center is
closed. It was determined to
be someone out of the area.
M CSO received a
report from a caller on 1-84/
Highway 730 that a male
subject was attempting to
flag people down. It was
determined their vehicle was
d isab led but there is
someone from Moro coming
to help. A deputy also did a
check during the evening to
see they were okay.
M CSO received a
report from a caller at the St.
Patrick’s Senior Center in
Heppner that the elevator
was stuck and someone was
inside. Heppner Fire Dept,
also responded to assist.
MCSO deputy cited
Larry Shane Robins, 45. for
Violation of the Basic Rule,
78 mph in a 65 mph zone.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r on
Highway 730 that there was
a male subject walking in the
westbound lane of traffic and
they almost hit him. A deputy
responded and the subject
was walking down the center
o f the road. The subject
advised he was waiting for
his wife to pick him up.
MCSO deputy found
several garbage cans in the
middle of Wyoming Ave. in
Irrigon and moved them.
M CSO received a
report from the Hermiston
Police Dept, that James Gary
Johnson, 43, was arrested on
a Morrow County Circuit
Court w arrant for Parole
V io latio n . Jo h n so n was
lodged at the U m atilla
County Jail.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r in
Heppner that she received a
harassing phone call from a
male subject in Hermiston.
MCSO made contact with
the subject in Hermiston and
he advised he had the wrong
number and would not call
again.
M SO receiv ed a
report of an argument in
Irrigon between a mother
and her son. A unit
responded to the location.
M CSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r in
Lexington that a vehicle with
two young females subjects
were stranded; one subject
walked to the caller’s home
and requested they call for
help. A deputy responded to
a ssist. The v eh icle was
towed and a family member
picked up the two female
subjects? The deputy stayed
on the scene until assistance
