Diamond Pioneer awards presented W heat industry leaders, Louis and Betty Carlson, Tad Miller and Bill Jaeger have been named to the D iam ond Pioneer Registry. The D iam ond P ioneer R egistry was established in March 1993 when the C ollege of A g ricu ltu ral Sciences o b serv ed its 75th an niversary. With the registry, the co lleg e recognizes the significant contributions of many of our friends and colleagues who have served agriculture and related areas throughout a portion of their careers. Louis and Betty Carlson farm south of lone. The land was homesteaded by Andrew Carlson in the 1880s. Louis served on the board of directors of the O regon W heat G row ers League for 20 years, culminating in his term as president in 1998. The Carlson farm was selected as Conservation Farm of the Year in 1967. Louis served as Port of Morrow chair for 10 years before e n terin g public service as Morrow County Judge and administrative officer for 12 years. Edwin “Tad” Miller has been living on and farming the same land in M orrow C ounty as his g ra n d fa th e r and father before him. Tad has been, and continues to be an active m em ber o f the OW GL. Tad’s father, E. H. Miller, was one o f the original founders o f the O regon Wheat Growers League. Tad followed in his fa th e r's footsteps, serving as Morrow County president for two years and League President in 1977. Miller served as a board m em ber for the N ational A sso ciatio n o f Wheat Growers, the U. S. Wheat Associates, and the State Board of Agriculture. Tad Miller received the M orrow Coilnty Conservationist of the Year Award in 1981. Bill Jaeg er was raised on a ranch that was involved with conservation and the implementation of new and p ro g ressiv e practices. As early as 1938, the farm was w orking on erosion control and was a part of a soil improvement program established by W. F. Marshall, Gilliam County Extension agent. The Jaeger farm was selected “ C o n serv atio n Farmer of the Year” in 1948 by the Eastern O regon Wheat League, the first time such an award was made by the League. Jaeg er served on many bo ard s and committees, including the Oregon State Ag Research and Advisory Council, the Oregon Wheat Commission, the O regon State G am e Commission and the Oregon Wheat Growers League. Jae g e r w as appointed to the Oregon Wheat Commission in 1974. He served on the board for 10 years; Jaeger has been a m em ber o f the O regon W heat G ro w ers L eague since the 1950s.
