The Beautification
Commission is once again
asking for names for the site.
The response to the request
for suggestions has been
m inim al and a nam e is
needed in order to dedicate
the site. The few suggestions
that have been received are
appreciated and there is still
time for anyone to contact
City Hall with your ideas for
re-nam ing the “old pool
site.”
Hager Park Steering
Committee will provide a
map and a possible layout for
future improvements of the
site at the October meeting.
The location o f handicap
parking was discussed and
the Garden Club plans to
apply for a grant for trees.
Once the master plan for the
park is developed, this will
drive the priorities for grant
a p p lic a tio n s. P lans for
seeding the park this fall will
not be done in the fall due to
lack of m anpow er in the
Public Works shop. Plans are
also dependent on Bailey
Heavy Equipment’s work on
other sites in the City since
they will provide topsoil
from those sites. The park

down.

regarding dead trees around
town was brought up. The
trees on the property at the
corner of May and Chase
streets are American Elm
and have died due to Dutch
Elm disease. There are strict
legal guidelines about the
removal and disposal of trees
that have died from this
disease and because of this,
removal has been delayed. In

Landscaping nearly complete at old pool site
The meeting of the
B eautification/P arks and
Lands Commission meeting
was held at Heppner City
Hall at Sept. 14.
The com m ission
learned that the Old Pool
Site landscaping is almost
complete. Some rails for the
fence have been located. A1
R iney has poles that he
would be willing to donate.
The rail fence eventually will
go on the south side and
fro n t o f the site. The
unimproved area south of
the site will be leveled for a
parking area some time in the
sp rin g . The parking lot
would be a low maintenance
area, sterilized and graveled.
The work schedule for the
project between now and
year end is limited due to
other work schedules and
lack o f p erso n n el. C ity
workers are planning to take
care of the chain link fence.
