the Morrow County mural project

On Friday, July 28, at
5:15 p.m., the com pleted
brick feature at the Morrow
C ounty
A g ric u ltu ra l
Museum in Heppner will be
officially presented to the
public.
The commemorative
b rick s honor p erso n s,
fa m ilies and b u sin esses
re p re se n ta tiv e
o f all
communities and regions of
Morrow County. Among the
205 bricks, are names from
Morrow County, Heppner, Oregon previous generations as well
as contem porary nam es,
agricultural family names
both present and from the
past, b u sin esses from
another era and businesses of
today.
P u rch ases o f the
bricks contributed about
one-fourth of the funding
needed to complete the third
phase of the m urals, the
segm ent p o rtray in g the
county's sheep industry and
the railroad enterprise.

Two more drug-
involved arrests
made

Lueck, 21, were arrested by
Morrow County Sheriff's
Office on Tuesday, July 18,
after grand jury indictments
for unlaw ful delivery of
m ariju an a to a m inor,
frequenting a place where
controlled substances are
used and endangering the
w elfare of a minor. Both
were lodged at U m atilla
County Jail, but have since
been released.
The in d ictm en ts
came from an investigation
by Morrow County Sheriff's
Office, which stemmed from
the arrest of an 18-year-old
Heppner man for numerous
drug and sex-related charges
involving a 14-year-old.
While each case is
individual, they have all

Fair Edition articles needed all of the types of drugs.
Harvest off to good start
The wheat harvest is underway with
already 10 or so days of cutting underw ay,
said John Ripple of Morrow County Grain
Growers. So far the yield has been about
average, seeing early estimates of 30-35
bushels per acre, said Ripple. The quality is
also looking good this year, added Ripple.

include a “thank you" from

everyone who supported the
p ro ject by p u rch asin g a
commemorative brick.
Celebrate Historic Heppner
on July 28
This year we will be "Celebrating Historic Heppner”
on Friday. July 28. The day is packed with numerous fun
family events that are sure to keep everyone entertained.
The day will begin w ith Sidewalk Sales along Main
Street, which will last throughout the day. Entries for the
pie judging contest need to be delivered to John's Place by
1 p.m. Judging will begin at 2 p.m. Sherrell Insurance
sponsors the event.
Providing fun for the younger crowd in Heppner is
a Tri-Cycle Race at 10:30 a.m. for 3 to 5 year olds; Egg
Races at 11 a.m. for 6-10 year olds; and a Hot Dog Eating
Contest at 11:30 a.m. for 11-16 year olds. The races will
be held on Church Street between Gale and Main streets
and the eating contest will be held at City Park.
New this year is a dunk tank. The tank w ill be open
from 12-3 p.m. Come check it out to see who the surprise
dunkees are.
Later in the evening, the "BBQ in the Park" will be
held at 5:30 p.m. Bank of Eastern Oregon sponsors the
event and Chamber of Commerce members will do the
“burger flipping." Following the BBQ is the pie auction
and Heppner Idol Talent Show'.
So come one, come all and Celebrate Heppner.
