On the first Saturday
in June of each year since
1962 members of the lone
C om m unity Church have
h osted an au ctio n and
barbecue dinner that causes
their small tow n's population
to swell to almost tw ice its
normal size for a day. The
theme for this year's event
is
“The
T rad itio n
Continues."
The countdow n to
this year's auction started on
Saturday, May 20, with the
first o f four pre-auction
work days. Members of the
lone Community Church set
up the tables and benches
used to d isp la y the
merchandise for the inside
part of the sale and began the
pro cess o f u n p ack in g ,
cleaning, sorting and pricing
items to be sold. The auction
itself will be on Saturday,
June 3 at Willows Grange in
lone.
The day starts when
the bell for the Country Store
rings at 10 a.m. and ends
when the last item in the
outside sale is auctioned off.

Gordon Wegwerth, 18. of lone, Daniel Nolan,
21, of Lexington and a male juvenile were arrested by
Morrow County Sheriff’s Office on May 18 for a series
of burglaries at M orrow County Grain Growers,
Morrow County School District office and lone High
School. Property recovered included com puter
equipment, musical instruments and ATV accessories
totaling over $10,000.

Health District Board met

expressed an interest in
working for the district, at

Monday night in Heppncr.

community" and added that
he was w orking on a
contract proposal for Dr.
Hale.

item s, new m erchandise
donated by local businesses,
lots of toys and books and a
huge selection of Christmas
and holiday items. These
items fill the upstairs of the
W illow s G range Hall to
bursting and overflow to the
o u tsid e w ith the S ilent
Auetion and sale of antique
china, glassware and other
collectibles.
The
O u tsid e
Auction, which begins at
10:30 a.m. and usually ends
around 3:30 p.m ., has a
trem endous selectio n o f
donated items that include
antique furniture, week-end
get-a-ways, gift certificates,
farm supplies and services,
new m erch an d ise and
numerous other items. You
just never know what might
turn up, but don’t miss the
quilt that was handmade by
Helen Heideman. it will be
sold at 2 p.m.
H ow ever,
the
highlight of the day is a
delicious meal served at
12:30 p.m. It includes pit
roasted barbecue beef served
with barbecue sauce made
from a c lo sely guarded
recipe, baked beans, French
bread made by the Willow
Creek Diner and Bakery and
a variety of salads. The cost
of the meal is $7 for adults.
$4 for 4-12 year olds and
children under 4 are free.
So, m ark your
calendars and plan a drive to
the Willows Grange Hall in
lone on June 3 to en joy a day
filled with good food, good
bargains and small town
hospitality.

Visitors to Heppner City Park w ho bring their four
legged friends with them now have a way to keep the park
enjoyable for everyone. Anew “DogiSpot” pet waste station
has been installed. The station offers plastic bags for
cleaning up pet waste and a receptacle to then place it in.
