Mustangs rally to beat Rockets
Mustang JVs sweep Tigers

After falling behind
7-3 in the bottom o f the
sixth, the Heppner Mustang
baseball team came back
with six runs in the top of the
seventh to beat the Pilot
Rock R ockets 9-7 on
Tuesday, April 25 in a key
Columbia Basin Conference
game. With the win, the
Mustangs, now 4-2 in the
CBC and 6-8 overall, took
over sole p o sse ssio n of
second place m idw ay
through league.
The Mustangs took
an early 1-0 lead in the first
when Tony Bolin was hit by
a p itch, C olton H anson
moved him to second with a
single and came home on a
Q uinn Peck single. The
Rockets tied it in the third
and added another run in the
fourth to take the lead, but
the M ustangs cam e back
with two in the fifth to regain
the lead. Hanson and Peck
singled and both scored on
a Nacho Elguezabal single.
The Rockets scored
five runs in the sixth to take
a seemingly convincing lead,
but the Mustangs came back
with a vengeance, banging
out seven hits in scoring their
six runs to regain the lead.
Elguezabal led of with a
double and was replaced by
Cody Hollis who scored on
an Andre Rauch single. Kyle
Carlson was hit by a pitch,
Robbie Smith had an RBI
single, Dan Basile had an
RBI single, Nathan Kennedy
had a sacrifice bunt, Bolin
scored two with a double
and came home on a Hanson
single and Peck and
Elguezabal singled, but they
left the bases loaded and
couldn’t add to their lead.
Peck, who went the
distance, got the Rockets in
order on seven pitches in the
bottom half to preserve the
win.
The
M ustangs
banged out 17 hits as a team
with Elguezabal leading the
way going four for four with
two RBI. Hanson and Peck
each went three for four,
Bolin went two for four with
two RBI and scored twice,
Basile went two for four and
Rauch went two for five.

Kindergarten Round-Up to be
held at HES
The annual Kindergarten Round-up will be held at
Heppner Elementary on Thursday, May 18 from 6:30-8
p.m. Adults will meet in the school library while the children
visit the kindergarten classroom.
Please bring your child’s birth certificate, Social
Security number and immunization records. The $3 student
body fee may be paid at this time.

In the opener, the
Mustangs took an early lead
as Justin Archer led off with
a double and scored on a
Sam King triple. The Tigers
came back with two runs in
the second, but the Mustangs
responded with three of their
own in the bottom half to
regain the lead for good.
Dalton Wellman led off with
a single, went to second on
a Quinn Chick sacrifice bunt
and scored on a C hris
Wellington single. Archer
then hit a home run to right
center for a 4-2 lead.
They added another
run in the third when King
reached on an erro r and
came around to score when
Wellman reached on another
error.
The Mustangs broke
the game open in the fourth
scoring eight runs on four
hits, three errors and two
walks. Archer reached on an
error. Hollis walked and Ben
McCarl reached on an error
to score Archer. Josh Shank
blasted a three-run home run
to left-center field, Wellman

to load the bases, Wellington
had an RBI single. Archer
reached on a fielder’s choice
to score a run, Hollis had an

the first as Archer led off
