Mustang JYs lose to Tigerscots

fell behind early and couldn’t
catch up as they lost to the
visiting W eston-M cEw en
T igerscots on T hursday,
April 6. The Mustangs, now
one and two on the year, will
face the Tigerscots again on
Thursday, April 13 at 4:30
p.m. and will be at Mac-Hi
on Monday, April 17.

scored two runs in the first,
three more in each of the
second and third to take an
8-0 lead before the Mustangs
finally got on the board as
Josh Shank walked, stole
second and scored on a triple
by Sam King.
The

scored two more in the fifth
but the Mustangs came back
with three of their own in the

team scored a run with the

scored on a King ground

Mustangs split with Dufur

The
H eppner
Mustang baseball team took
a 5-4 win over the visiting
Dufur Rangers to earn a split
in their doubleheader on
Friday, April 7. The Rangers
pounded out an 11-1 win in
six innings in the first game.
The Mustangs, now 2-6 on
the year, will be at Umatilla
on Saturday, April 15 for a
doubleheader starting at 11
a.m ., in C olum bia Basin
Conference play and will be
at home for a non-league
game on Tuesday, April 18
at 2 p.m.
In the opener, the
Rangers had a 6-0 lead after
tw o innings before Tony
Bolin hit a long home run to
left field for the Mustangs
only run of the game. The
Rangers added two more in
the fourth and three more in
the sixth to give them a 10-
run rule lead and enforce the
10-run rule.
Bolin went two for
three with the home run as
the Mustangs only managed
to get three hits in the game.
In the second game,
the Mustangs took a 2-0 lead
in the bottom o f the first
when Bolin led off with a
single, stole second as Quinn
Peck walked, Andre Rauch
had an RBI single and Peck
came home on a passed ball.
The Rangers scored
a run in the top o f the
second, but the M ustangs
matched it in the bottom half
as Dan Basile walked, stole
second and came home on a
Josh Shank single.
The Rangers tied it
in the third, but the Mustangs
took the lead for good in the
fourth when Basile walked,

Hanson walked to load the
bases, Peck scored one on a
sac rifice fly and N acho
E lg u ezab al had an RBI
single to make it 5-3.
The Rangers scored
a run in the fifth, but the
M ustangs held on for the
win.
Peck w ent the
distance on the mound to
pick up the win, scattering
seven hits while striking out
five.
Bolin went two for
two, Rauch went two for
four, Basile went one for one
scoring twice and Peck went
one for two.

Mustangs drop two at Warrenton Wranglers Riding Club to begin

visiting Warrenton Warriors
on Monday, March 27 by
scores of 7-3 and 4-3 in six
innings as the game was cut
short because of “darkness.”
The Mustangs dropped to 0
and 5 with the losses in the
pre-season.
The opening game
started out good for the
Mustangs as Tony Bolin led
off the first inning with a
d o u b le and sco red on a
Q uinn Peck single. They
ad d ed tw o m ore in the
second as R obbie Sm ith
w alk ed , K yle C arlso n
singled, Dan Basile moved
them to second and third on
a g ro u n d out and B olin
scored both runners with a
single.
That was it for the
M ustangs though as the
Warriors tied it with three
runs in the fourth, took the
lead with two more in the
fifth and ad d ed tw o
in su ra n ce runs in the
seventh.
Bolin went two for
three w ith tw o RBI and
Carlson went one for two.
In the second game,
the Warriors scored a run in
the first and two more in the
fifth before the Mustangs got
on the board with two of
their own in the bottom of
the fifth . A ndre R auch
doubled, Basile scored him
w ith a sin g le and cam e
around to score as Bolin
reached on an error.
The Warriors scored
on in the top of the sixth, but
the M ustangs came back
with one of their own in the
b o tto m h a lf w hen Peck
walked, stole second and
scored on a Rauch single, but
the game ended there as the
umpire decided it was too
dark to continue.
Rauch went two for
three, Basile went one for
one and Peck one for two.

it 2-0. They added another
run in the second as Robbie
Smith walked and with Josh
Shank running Basile had an
RBI double.

an RBI single. Basile walked

As a rain and thunder
storm moved through, the
Mustangs broke the game

The Scotties took

Mustangs came back with

A ctivities for this
year may include an
overnight ride. The highlight
of last summer’s activities
was a weekend trail ride at
the Merlin Hughes ranch in
U kiah. A lth o u g h rain
dampened some of the rides
through this scenic timbered
country, approximately 30
people en jo y ed o u td o o r
cooking, camping, fishing,
volleyball and diving for
shelter in the bunkhouse to
play cards. A sunset ride in
to a herd of elk was a special
highlight. The riders listened
in amazement as the cows
and calves communicated
with each other. The young
Wranglers decided cowboys
should sleep under the stars
after w atching the older
cow boys pitching a tent
while the directions were
debated. From the littlest to

four play days scheduled at
the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo
arena on April 23, April 30,
May 7 and May 14. The
a c tiv itie s begin w ith a
potluck at 12 p.m., sign-up
is held at 12:30 p.m., and
ev en ts begin at 1 p.m .
E v ery o n e is in v ited to
attend. Membership dues are
$40 per family, $30 for a
single, or $5 for a one-day
pass. Age divisions will be
decided at the first Play Day.
Ages are determined as of
Jan. 1.
Participation at three
play days is required for
aw ards. Ribbons will be
awarded to all participants

Pepper and Connie barrens
RJ is actively involved in school
government and is next year's Student Body President
He is also active in extracurricular activities. He played
varsity basketball and football and is presently playing on a
spring basketball team. RJ was an outdoor school Tupper
counselor last year and will be again this year.
After high school. RJ hopes to attend the University of
Oregon and major in pre law or a political science field
