Wrestling Tournament in Heppner. The Colt program was made
possible by HHS Coaches Ken Bailey, Brian Harmond, Ty Hurl
and the high school and junior high Mustang Wrestling Team.

The
fle d g lin g
Heppner Wrestling Program
was given a boost of $200
recently from the local area
East of Ditch Social Club.
The first year high
school and ju n io r high
school wrestlers have dealt
with no funding for their
sport plus fin d in g and
traveling to m atches, all
against more experienced
w restlers. D espite these
c h allen g e s, a p ro m isin g
num ber o f stu d en ts are
participating and working
hard at p ra c tic e s w ith
d ed ica te d co ach es. The
re su lts
have
been
e n co u rag in g w ith som e
wrestlers winning matches
and
o th ers
g ain in g
experience and skills for the
next match.
Organizers want to
em phasize the stu d en ts
turning out are those who
were not participating in
basketball, thus wrestling is
k eep in g th ese stu d en ts
involved in sports, not taking
them away from another
program . W restlers are
paired off for matches by
their weight for a more equal
challenge. Individual match
results can earn points for
the entire team.
T he
w restlin g
program has been expanded
to include training for Colt
W restlers in the th ird
through sixth grades. At the
first Colt-aged session, 21
students turned out.
Financial support for
the w restling program is
needed and w ould be
appreciated by the wrestlers
and their fans. Donations can
be made to Daye Stone,

P rin cip al, PO Box 67.
