animal science and Spanish
at the University of Idaho, is
attending classes during the
2005-2006 school year at La
U niversidad C atólica del
Ecuador in Quito, Ecuador.
Jepsen's essay was entitled
“From the Tropics to the
Farm.” In it he explained
how no-till farming practices
can lead to healthier soils
aro u n d the w orld. The

MO, in mid January. Jepsen’s
essay was published in the
February 2006 issue of No-
Till Farmer Magazine.
There were about 50
essay s subm itted in this
year’s contest - which was
open to high school seniors
and college students in the
United States and Canada.
Second place and a $1000
college scholarship went to

On Friday. Jan. 26, lone Community School's Camp
5 guest instructor was Jannie Allen. Allen, a teacher at
Heppner Elementary School, took grades two through six
and shared her knowledge and skill with them making
decoratively painted rocks. “All the kids had fun and there
were no rocks thrown," in the words of Vicky Wagenblast,
coordinator of the extra-curricular program.
Wagenblast took the kindergarten through second
graders and painted wooden duck note holders. The bills
of the ducks were made of clothespins, which served as
the note holders.
Next month Camp 5 will be teaching chess for
grades 3-12. The exact date has not been set, but watch
the newspaper for details or check the school’s website at
www.ione.kl 2. or.us.

knocked off the first place
Sherman County Huskies by
a score o f 79-67 on
Saturday. Jan. 28 in Heppner

Mustangs, now 6-4 in the
CBC and 8-6 overall, are tied
with Pilot Rock for third and
will be at the Rockets' on
Friday before coming home
to face Irrigon on Saturday.
The

jumped out to a 22-10 lead
against the Huskies at the
end of one and still led 42-
30 at the half. The Huskies
came back in the third to cut
the lead to 59-56, but the
Mustangs pulled away in the
fourth for the 12-point win.
Rory Kilkenny led
the way with 20 points and
13 rebounds with RJ Farrens
hitting four 3-pointers and
finishing with 14 points and
eig h t a ssists. M att Van
Cleave had 12 points, five
rebounds and two steals,
Matt McCabe had 10 points
and two steals, Mikel Britt
had nine points and five
rebounds. Matt Kenny had
two assists and two steals
and Quinn Peck and Lane

Morrow SWCD board meeting to
be held
The Morrow SWCD board has a meeting scheduled
forTuesday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m., at the Pettyjohn office building
in Heppner. Agenda items include minutes of the January
meeting, treasurer's report, written staff report, building
update, grant update. Bombing Range weed update, annual
report review, review draft weed policy and partner agency
reports. Prospect of an executive session according to ORS
192.640(2). Meetings of the Morrow SWCD are open to
the public.
Rebekah Lodge to host card
. party
Holly Rebekah Lodge will be hosting its monthly
card party this Saturday, Feb. 4. Play will start at 7 p.m.
The cost is $5 per person. Food, snacks and prizes will be
furnished. The public is invited to attend.

d'Alene, Idaho on Jan. 28, 2006. Up next for Tellechea
