couldn't hold on to a third
quarter lead as turnovers and
missed free throws led to a
loss at Umatilla by a score
of 44-36 on Friday. Jan. 27

Mustangs are now 4-5 in the
CBC and 6-10 overall.
The M ustangs led
10-6 after one, getting four
points each from Megan Orr
and Sarah Price and still led
21-18 at the half.
The
V ikings
outscored the Mustangs 11-
2 in the third to take a 29-23
lead going into the fourth.
Aftan Betsinger scored off a
pass from Sherilyn Peck and
Orr made one of two free
throws to make it 31 -26 and
Orr hit a 3-pointer to make
it 33-29. The Vikings scored
five straight before Regi
Seitz hit one of two free
throws and Orr hit another
3-pointer to cut the lead to
38-33. Taylor Kempas hit
two free throws to cut the
lead to 4-35 w ith 42.4
seconds left, but that was as
close as they would get as
the Vikings held on for the
win.
Orr finished with 13
points, five rebounds and
four steals with Price scoring
six points and grabbing six
rebounds. Betsinger had six
points and four rebounds,
Peck had five rebounds, two
steal and two assists, Seitz
had four rebounds and three
steals, Lyndi Patton had five
rebounds and Katie Kilkenny
had three steals.

Heppner Garden Club to meet
The Heppner Garden Club will be meeting at the
Senior Center on Monday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. The program
will be about wild flowers and include an update on the
blue birds in the Blue Mountains presented by Renee Devin.
Devin has put birdhouses in the mountains and checks on
them regularly. She keeps detailed records on them and of
the wild flowers in the area. Daisy Collins and Dorothy
Jackson are hosts for the evening. The meeting is open to
the public.

for Town and Country and she is on the Beautification
commission. She also plays tennis in her “spare” time.

rebounding led the Heppner
Mustang girls' varsity to a
53-42 win over first place
Sherman County Huskies on
Saturday, Jan. 28 in Heppner

Mustangs, 5-5 in the CBC
and 7-10 overall, will be at
Pilot Rock on Friday, Feb. 3
and back at hom e on
Saturday to face the Irrigon
Knights.

Six 3-pointers from

boys pull away from the
Umatilla Vikings at Umatilla
winning by a score of 6 1 -46
on F riday, Jan. 27 in
Columbia Basin Conference
play. The Mustangs, 5-4 in
the CBC and 7-6 overall, will
be at Pilot Rock on Friday,
Feb. 3 and back at home
against Irrigon on Saturday.
The first quarter was
back and forth as both teams
took turns leading as Rory

Matt Van Cleave for a lay-in
to make it 4-2. Van Cleave
tied it at 6-6 on a rebound
basket then hit a free throw
and Farrens hit a 3-pointer
and Kilkenny scored off a
pass from Mikel Britt to give
the Mustangs a 12-8 lead.

39-20. Farrens fed Britt for

eventually led 43-30 at the
end of three.

make it 50-33 early in the
fourth. Van Cleave scored
off a drive, Farrens scored
off a drive and Kenny hit a

Mustangs coasted through
the fourth for the win.
Farrens hit six o f
seven from the 3-point range
and finished with 22 points,
two assists and two steals,
with Kilkenny adding 12
points and 11 rebounds. Van
Cleave had 10 points, seven
rebounds and three steals,
McCabe had nine points and
two steals and Britt had five
rebounds.

Quilts, bulls and art to take over
Main Street in Hermiston

Chamber of Commerce is
hosting a weekend event this
Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3
and 4 that will include a bull
show, art walk and quilt
show.
The bull show and
au ctio n w ill be held on
Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It is being sponsored by FFA,
4-H and the Lady Campers.
Three blocks of Main Street
in Hermiston will be fenced
off and the bulls will be
shown and auctioned from
that area.
