Focus on the real
problem
To the editor:
I support the recall
of Jean Brazell as I believe
Lexington needs council
members to act as a team,
not
as
in d iv id u a ls
ad m in isterin g th eir ow n
agenda. According to state
laws, “No council member
has in d iv id u al pow ers
separate from the powers of
the council.” Time and time
again, council member Jean
Brazell acts alone w hile
conducting town business.
She p rep ares h er ow n
agenda and makes her own
reco m m en d atio n s
and
co n clu sio n s based on
information no other council
member has received. She
b e liev es that L ex in g to n
needs more funding for her
projects.
Every year for five
years, Jean has been pushing
to raise the local option tax,
stating the town needs more
revenue, when in fact, the
past five years the town has
carried over almost 1/3 of its
budgeted amount. Several
budget committee members
have req u ested to m ake
e x tra p ay m en ts on our
existing loans with the some
of the excess money. Jean
has objected.
D uring
co u n cil
meetings, she has stated that
the town needs a new well
and reservoir; according to
direction she had received
from the state. However, the
town has not been out of
com pliance nor have we
been fined with our present
w ater sy stem . A recent
e n g in ee r
study
has
contradicted Jean Brazell.
Jean is in favor of raising the
w ater ra te s in o rd e r to
qualify for funding for a new
well and reservoir. A new
well and reservoir could cost
the town patrons as much as
one million dollars.
In addition, Jean has
no problem with causing
town debt, as she instructed
the town maintenance man
to drain the airport reservoir
without knowledge of the
rest o f the c o u n cil or
residences living in the area.
Since there was plan to drain
the
re serv o ir,
the
maintenance man turned on
the water value and left -
causing flooding onto the
street, state highway and into
a residence. A claim was
processed against the city
in su ran ce to re p a ir the
damage. Furthermore, the
street had to be reb u ilt
costing the town.
Jean
B ra z e ll’s
agenda includes raising taxes
and w ater rates for
Lexington. But she fails to
address the num ber one
problem in Lexington and
that is crime and drugs.

E ach

yearbook staff must raise
funds for publication of the
yearbook. The funds come in
by holding events such as
this one, and by selling ads
and sponsorships throughout
the year. This year the goal
is to raise $10,000. All senior
pages will be in color in the
2006 book (only half were

interactive DVD will be
included with the book (for
an extra fee). The sale of the
book itself brings in nearly
half of the needed funds.
Come on out to the

hour and a half or so before
the game and warm up on a

with candy and pop.
