Chamber Chatter
Wedding
By Claudia Hughes, Kxe. Dir.
More and more visitors step through the Chamber
office door and comment that they want to move here.
Instead of the freeway, they have chosen the back roads,
the "rugged country”. This is an opportunity to invite them
to move here, to buy a business and become a part of this
community to which they are drawn. It’s about growing
Heppner and bringing in new families.
Hayden Family Dentistry... what a great addition to
Main Street. Aren’t we fortunate to have dentists and
doctors right here in our small community. Many rural towns
would "give their eye teeth” to have these facilities in their
neighborhood (maybe a better example in this instance
would be “the shirt off their back” ). With gas prices
continuing to skyrocket, we are so lucky to be able to buy
our groceries and do our doctoring right here in town. We
take this for granted until we talk to other ruralites who
have to drive miles and miles when an emergency arises or
when they need a necessity.
Have you noticed the villages being developed in
large cities so that people can walk to the post office, the
comer store, the drugstore and the beauty shop? We don’t
get it. Our village is right here. One of these beautiful fall
days, take a walk and explore Heppner. Call a friend. Start
at Green Feed and move through town. Shop in each store,
take a mental inventory, and think about how it serves your
needs. Share realistic ideas with the owners, compliment
them and thank them for staying in business so that your
town might thrive. Leam from them, as they will from you.
Have a “sm oothie” and check out the art at
Cornerstone Gallery, visit the museum, look at all the
exciting projects at the Artisan Village, check out Christmas
ideas at Peterson's, have an energy drink at Murray’s and
don’t miss The Victorian Rose. Meet the scarecrows along
the street. Been thinking about redoing a room, stop by
Heppner Hardware. Before you know it you will have
discovered all kinds of opportunities, had a good chat with
your friend, had a bite of lunch, saved gas, purchased your
groceries and supported your local hometown. You might
visit the museum, go bowling, rent a movie, or try out the
therapy pool. It’s an adventure pretending you are a visitor
in Heppner. Give it a try. There are stories to be written
and ideas to grow.
Thought for the week: “Happiness is not elusive,
but some forget to make time for it; a good laugh or helping
others brings it on.”
Arbuckle Nordic Ski Club meets
The Arbuckle Ski Club had its first meeting of the
year. Anyone in the community who would like to join the
ski club and attend one of the weekly scheduled ski trips
beginning in January is encouraged to call Bill Ewing at
676-9119 or Dave Fowler at 676-9109.

TERMITE INSPECTION
One aspect of a real estate
sale can be the requirement for
a termite inspection and clear
ance.
Although many lenders re
quire them, an inspection is
usually not required by law at
the point of sale. Many times
buyers will request a termite
inspection as part of the terms
in order to find out the condi
tion of the home in relation to
water damage and infestation
o f the wood by termites. A
buyer may want this because
he may be asked to get a ter-
