Willow Creek Terrace Board hosts
“thank you” barbecue
The Willow Creek
Valley Assisted Living Board
hosted a patio “thank you”
barbecue on Sept. 25 for
approximately 68 people
that included the facility staff
and community members
who volunteered time or
contributed items such as
game
prizes, garden
produce, or even money
during the 2004-2005 year.
This is the second year that
this barbecue has been held.
During the year,
Willow Creek Terrace has
many weekly and occasional
activities happening in its
facility. Some examples of
these activities include the
weekly bingo games that are
put on by the Nazarene
Church pastor and members,
the Mother’s Day tea and
Father's Day barbecues by
the Lexington Rebekah and
Odd Fellow lodges; the one
Sunday a month old time
fiddle m usicals by Bob
Stevens, A1 Riney, Bill West
and Marilyn Allison; and
transporting residents to the
fair, church or for a
sightseeing drive with ice
cream before returning to the
Terrace.
“W illow
Creek
Terrace is a non-profit
facility, so the board o f
directors appreciates all the
help that is received from the
many thoughtful people in
our community. There are
too many to personally list,
but we know who you are
and we all appreciate you
wholeheartedly. It gives the
residents the best we have to
offer while helping us to stay
within our yearly budget. We
hope that you will continue
your support and that we
w ill add many new
volunteers and contributors
to our list in 2005-2006,”
said a board spokesperson.

To the Editor:
To the residents of
Lexington:
My appreciation to
those of you who voted for
John Edwards and myself in
the recent recall election.
As you know, we
were unsuccessful in
overcoming the lies, gossip
and accusations that were
spread throughout the town

To the Editor:
From the time we
moved to Heppner in March
1991 until the present,
Jenkins Street has looked
like so m eo n e’s private
dumping ground, with a
large pile o f used tires,
abandoned vehicles, and
other junk strewn about. In
March of 2004 I brought this
to the attention of a high
ranking city official. His
response was that the street
was not being used (even
though people residing on
this street were using it every
day). He also commented
that if too many complaints
were received he would
close the street, as if this
action would som ehow
cause the mess to disappear.
Nothing was done to correct
this clear violation of the city
code.
On 24 September
20051 contacted Mayor Tim
Van Cleave, and Sheriff’s
Deputy Randy Rayburn.
They agreed this street
should be cleaned up. That
same day I was contacted by
S h eriff’s Deputy Justin
To the Editor:
Shame on you
Lexington.
The recall is over and
the mayor and council
member have been recalled.
I appreciate all the citizens
that supported Mayor (John)
Edwards and C ouncilor

worked hard in their efforts
to do what they felt was in
the best interest of all the

l
Slinger. He said he was to
attend a meeting concerning
Jenkins Street in the p.m.,
and would keep me informed
of any action to be taken.
Deputy Slinger has gone out
of his way to do just that.
Mayor Van Cleave contacted
me by telephone on 29 Sept.
2005 to inform me that my
concerns were being looked
into.
The process to clean
up Jenkins Street began on
1 Oct. 2005 with the removal
o f one o f the abandoned
vehicles. This action was
taken within a period of only
10 days. It is gratifying to see
how quickly things can be
accomplished if the right
people are on the job, in our
city government and law
enforcem ent.
If
the
northwest end of Heppner is
finally cleaned up our long
uphill battle will have been
well worth the trouble. I
appreciate the Mayor’s, and
the
Morrow
County
Sheriff’s O ffice’s timely
response.
