School district receives funding request for RHS track
The Morrow County
School Board received a
proposal from a Boardman
contingency for funds for
paving the Riverside High
School track in Boardman.
Boardman resident Dean
Kegler told the board that
the Boardman community
built the track with no
district
funds
and
commented, “We asked for
a lot and we got nothing.”
He also reminded the board
that the largest growth is in
the north end and noted that
the district granted funds for
the Heppner High School
track. “Right now we have
a great need and we’ve
gotten nothing. It seems like
a really small amount,
considering what we did.”

Superintendent
Mark
Burrows told Kegler that he
would put the item in the
budget, but the funds would
not be available until next
year, because the budgeting
process is already completed
for this year. However, the
board agreed that Burrows
would work with Kegler to
expedite the funding for the
request, if possible.
In other business, the
board
learned
that
graduation requirements
have been changed by the
state beginning with the class
of 2009. The changes will
require 24 credits for a
student to graduate,
including four English
credits and three math
credits. MCSD has already
raised the total credits
required to graduate, but will
need to change the
mathematics requirements.
The MCSD alternative
education program, which
currently requires 22 credits
for graduation, will be
required to add two more
credits.

STRUCTURAL INSPECTION
A correctly written struc-
tural inspection converts an
iron-clad form agreement into
an option that gives purchas
ers time to examine the prop
erty and decide whether or not
to buy it. It also ties up the
property so that it cannot be
sold to anyone else until the
purchaser has made a deci
sion.
Will a seller accept a struc
tural inspection? Some sellers
will refuse any offer that modi
fies a standardized form
agreement, a position that
typically softens if a property

remains unsold for a lengthy
period. Other sellers will en
courage structural inspections
to prevent future litigation.
There reasoning is: that by hir
ing an independent inspector,
a buyer cannot later claim to
have relied only on the seller
or the broker for structural
advice.
Structural inspections are
keenly important to most buy
ers because they are not quali
fied to judge a home’s physi
cal aspects and working sys
tems.

the
“accountability model”
which is to be established at
Riverside Junior High
School and may later be
implemented at other
schools. The program
requires students to attend
summer school if they fail
one to three classes. If they
do not attend summer school
or do not pass the summer
school classes, they will be
placed in remediation
classes. If they still do not
pass the classes or fail four
classes, they will be retained
at their grade level. A flow

policy change.
