Field Day. It was held on
Wednesday, May 4 at Duane

Water was the focus
o f the presentations during
the daylong e d u catio n
program The day was
b roken into hands-on
teaching sessions including:
soils, w eather, plants,
compass and GPS/mapping,
macro invertebrates, water
quality and stream bank
restoration The students

Stanfield High School track.
The sixth and seventh grade
boys were runners up to
Umatilla, as were the eighth
grade boys. Both the sixth
and seventh grade girls and
the eighth grade girls were
champions.

shined in the sprints taking
the 100m (12 94 seconds)
and 200m (26.47 seconds)
titles He also helped to
capture the 4x200 relay title.
Holland also moved up in the
all time top 10 for 400m
runners He also placed third
in high jump.
Brent Eckman took
the high jump district title at
5 feet 1 inch and ran a leg o f
the champion 4x200 relay
team He also placed third in
the 100 -meter hurdles and
eighth in the 100 meter
Jordan Hatfield took
off in the triple jump with a
new school reco rd and
district title, leaping 35 feet
3 inches Chuy Elguezabal
set the old record at 34 feet
9 inches in 2000. Hatfield
also captured the 300-meter
hurdles title with a time o f
48.01 seconds and took
second in the 400 meter He
also ran a leg o f the
champion 4x200 relay team
Jared H uddleston
was the district champion in
javelin with a throw o f 139
feet 8 inches and ran a leg
with the champion 4x200
relay team He also placed
second in the high jump and
sixth in the 100 meter
Josh Shank left a big
impression on junior high
track with a new school
record and district titles in
the long jump and 200 meter
He leaped to 18 feet 6 -V 2
inches; the old school record
was set by Derek Gunderson
at 18 feet 5 inches in 1995.
The 200 meter was ran in
25.23 seconds, breaking
G underson’s record 25.25
seconds in 1995. Shank

W ellington’s 12.65-second
100 -meter run moved him to
fourth all time best.
Spencer Palmer took
the district javelin title and a
new school record with a
throw o f 153 feet 6 inches.
Palmer had set the school
record April 1 at Umatilla
with a throw o f 150 feet 11
inches, breaking B ryson
Wood’s throw o f 141 feet 4
inches in 2003. Palmer also
to o k second in the 800
meter, fifth in the 400 meter
and sixth in the triple jump

M cE llig o tt has had a
tremendous season breaking
seven school records this
season. She was a repeat
district champion in the 1500
meter, 300-m eter hurdles
and 800 m eter and also
added a javelin title in 2005.
She first broke the 300-
m eter hurdles reco rd at
Pendleton on April 29 with
a time o f 50.66 seconds. Pam
Orr set the old record in
1981 with a time o f 51 73
seconds. McElligott again
broke the 300-meter hurdle
record May 6 with a time of
50.49 seconds. The 800
m eter record was ,set by
McElligott in 2004 with a
tim e o f 2 m inutes 41.98
seconds, but broke it twice
this second to set it at 2
minutes 38 seconds At the
championships she took first
in the 800 meter with a time
o f 2 minutes 43.07 seconds.
M cE lligott also held the
1500 m eter reco rd at 5
minutes 27 seconds in 2004,
but broke it twice this season
to set it at 5 minutes 14
seconds at the May 6 meet
The javelin record was held
by Kristen Van Cleave at 88
feet 4 inches in 2004, was
broke by Maggie Armato on
April 15 at Sherman County
with a throw o f 96 feet 6 -V 2
inches and broke again by
McElligott on April 29 with
a th ro w o f 101 feet

1 inch McElligott now holds
the 1500 meter, 800 meter,

with jumps totaling 28 feet
5 inches. She also took the
100 -meter title with a time
o f 14.27 seconds and the
200 -meter title with a time
o f 29 44 seconds. She also
placed fourth in long jump
Maggie Armato was
the discus district champion
with a throw o f 67 feet 3
inches. She also broke the
javelin school record on
April 15 with a throw o f 96
feet 6-'/2 inches. At
cham pionships, she also
placed second in javelin with
a throw o f 100 feet 7 inches,
fourth in shot put and eighth
in 400 meter
Nikki Fritz was a
repeat district high jump
champion with a jump o f 4
feet 5 inches She also placed
seven in the 200 meter and
sixth in the 4x200 relay.
