Voter registration deadline nearing
for upcoming election
There will be an election on Tuesday, May 17. The
last day to register to vote for this election is April 26. The
positions and candidates filed are listed below.
Heppner Rural Fire Protection District: There
are three Director at Large positions of four-year terms
and one Director at large position for a two-year term.
Filed for the election are: Donald Bennett, two-year term;
Lyle Peck, four-year term; Brian Thompson, four-year term;
and Mike Mahoney, four-year term.
Heppner Cemetery Maintenance District: There
are two Director at large positions o f four-year terms and
one Director of large position for a two-year term. Filed
for the election are: Thomas Wolff, position #3, two-year
term; Christopher “ Kit” George, position #1, four-year
term; and Albert Riney, position #2, four-year term.
Heppner Community Education Committee:
There are three positions, 1, 2 and 4 for four-year terms
and three positions, 3, 5 and 6 for two-year terms. No
candidates filed for any o f these positions.
Heppner Water Control District: There are two
Director at large positions for four-year terms. Filed for
the election are: Robert Laughlin and Donald Bennett.
lone Rural Fire Protection District: There are
three Director at large positions for four-year terms. Filed
for the election are: Billy Rietmann and Wayne Rietmann.
lone Lexington Cemetery District: There is one
Director at large position for a four-year term. Filed for
the position is Edward Baker.
lone School District: There are three positions,
3,4 and 5, for four-year terms. Filed for the election are:
John Rietmann, position 3; Anne Morter, position 4; Joel
Peterson, position 5.
Boardman Rural Fire Protection District: There
are three Director at large positions for four-year terms.
Filed for the election are: Randy Yates, Rick Sandlin and
Don Russell.
Boardman Cemetery District: There are two
Director at large positions for four-year terms. Filed for
the election are: William Sharkey, David Pedro and Blair
Purcell.
Boardman Park & Recreation District: There
are two Director at large positions for four-year terms.
Filed for the election are: Karen Pettigrew and Kathy
Moore.
Boardman Community Education Committee:
There are three positions, 1, 3 and 6, for four-year terms;
and three positions, 2, 4 and 5, for two-year terms. Filed
for the election are: Dean Mason, position 1; Sylvia Barrera,
position 6; Alissa Daltoso, position 5; and Kelly Doherty,
position 4.
Irrigon Rural Fire Protection District: There are
two positions, 3 and 4, for four-year terms and one*position,
2, for a two-year term. Filed for the election are: Mark
Calbick, position 3; William Cooley, position 4.
Irrigon Cemetery Maintenance District: There
is one Director at large position for a four-year term. No
candidates filed for this position.
Irrigon Community Park & Recreation District:

honor pope
A memorial mass in
memory o f Pope John Paul
II w ill be offered at St.
Patrick’s Church in Heppner
on Friday, April 8 at 10 a.m.

Economic group
to visit laminating
plant considering
Heppner location
Next Tuesday a group
from the Willow Creek Val­
ley Economic Group, and
other interested officials, will
visit a newly opened lamina­
tion plant in Molalla that has
expressed interest in opening
a similar manufacturing plant
in Heppner.
The group will visit Sa­
vanna Pacific’s new glue lam
plant to see how the opera­
tion is proceeding. Savanna
officials have met with mem­
bers o f W CVEDG the Port
o f Morrow and other offi­
cials to talk about opening a
plant at the industrial site in
Heppner.
If the business does locate
in Heppner it is expected to
hire between 20 and 30 em­
ployees.

After using last week to

Riverside Street for pipe
work, workers with Moore
E xcavating o f Portland
have begun laying pipes
on Riverside Avenue as
part o f the C ity o f
Heppner’s water project,
said City Manager Jerry
Breazeale. The project on
Riverside is expected to be
com pleted in May. This
deadline has been set so
that the c o u n ty can
prepare the road (grade
and g ra v el w o rk ) for
p a v in g , w h ich wi l l be
completed by the state this
summer.
