IMS boys’ “A” team competes in
Dufur tournament

traveled to Dufur for a
tournament on Saturday,
Feb. 12.
The first game the
Cardinals played was against
St Mary’s Academy. They
played tw o 15-m inute
running halves. In the first
half, the Cardinals scored 10
points and St. Mary’s scored
12, with a lead o f two by
halftime In the second half,
the Cardinals managed 12
points, but St. Mary’s scored
13 points and St. Mary’s
ended up with the win The
final score o f the game was
2 5 -2 2 , w ith St. M ary’s
winning
Cory Peterson lead
the Cardinals in scoring with
eight points, Matt Hams
scored six p oin ts, Clay
Morter scored four points,
Storm y Kendrick scored
three p oin ts and Matt
Coleman scored one point.
“This w as one o f
those games if something
could go wrong it did,” said
Coach Mike Garrett “St.
Mary’s is a well disciplined
team and they jumped on us.
We got into early foul
trouble and played fairly flat
until the m iddle o f the
second half. I w as very
impressed that the kids did
not give up and got back into
this game until the end ”
The second game o f
the day that the Cardinals
played was against Sherman
County
In the first half the
C ardinals scored eight
points, but Sherman County
ou tscored them by tw o,
scoring 10 points In the
second half, the Cardinals
pulled even and then ahead
o f the tou gh Sherman
County before the Huskies
got away from the Cardinals
Sherman scored 21 points in
the secon d h a lf and the
Cardinals only scored 13.
The final score o f the game
saw lone losing 31-21.
Morter swished in
seven points. Hams banked
in six, Peterson scored four
points and Kendrick and
Coleman each scored two
points

had

looking forward to playing
Sherman all year They are
the best team that we played
all year and they gave us a
good measuring stick to see
w here w e are The kids
played great and I was very
proud o f them,” said Coach
Garrett “With four minutes
to go in the game we were
tied at 21 and that's when we
got a little tight and the shots
didn’t drop I was glad to see
the kids kept a p ositive
attitude and win their last
two games A lot o f teams
would have just given up ”

Arlington Goslings
In the first half o f the
game, the Cardinals scored
15 points and the Goslings
only scored 10. In the second
half, the Cardinals scored 20
points and the G oslin gs
scored 14 points. The
Cardinals came out with the
win with a final score o f 35-
24.
Morter banked in 18
points, Peterson swished in
eight p oin ts, Kendrick
dropped four points and
Hams and Gunner Jessen
both scored tw o points.
Coleman also scored one
point.
“This was a good
win for the kids. Arlington
has a good team who plays
great defense. Ted has done
a great job this year with
their program We had
already played Arlington
twice this year and we had
split the series, so I was
happy to get the win.
Defensively we played well
on their two main scorers
and we made our easy shots
in the lane,” said Coach
Garrett
The fourth and final
game o f the day that the
Cardinals played was against
the Dufur Rangers
In the first half, the
Cardinals came out strong
and scored 11 points, while
the Rangers only scored two
points. In the second half, the
Rangers gave the Cardinals
a run for their money scoring
13 points, but the Cardinals
scored 15 taking home the
win with a final score o f 26-
15.

in five points, Hams banked
in four points and Kendrick,

“I was happy to see
we had some gas left in the
tank and w e jum ped on
Dufur early. Playing four
games in a day can be pretty
dem anding and the kids
handled it well Everyone
was able to play a lot o f
minutes in this game and I
was able to put my seventh
graders all in at one time and
am looking forward to next
year,” said Coach Garrett

to replace, but they are
looking forward to moving
up to high school next year
