Mustang boys fall to Tigerscots Mustang girls lose to Tigerscots Mustang JV boys win over Tigers

M ustang varsity boys on
Tuesday, Feb 8 in Athena in
Columbia Basin Conference
play. The Mustangs dropped
to 2-9 in the CBC and 5-13
overall with the loss
The Mustangs broke
out early taking an 8-4 lead
on four points from Gus
Torres, a Josh G utierrez
ju m p er and a M atthew
VanCleave lay-in on a pass
from Mikel Britt VanCleave
had a rebound basket, but the
Tigerscots came back to take
a 12-10 lead until Torres put
back an offensive rebound at
the buzzer to tie it at 12-12
after one
Rory Kilkenny hit a
short jum per and Torres
scored off a steal to make it
16-14 The T ig ersc o ts
scored seven straight, but the
Mustangs came back with a
K ilkenny lay-in, T orres
scored off a drive, then fed
VanCleave for a lay-in and
Matt Kenny scored off a pass
from Gutierrez to make it
24-21. The Tigerscots tied it
on a three-point play, but
Torres hit a running jumper
to give the Mustangs a 26-
24 lead at the half
After a basket by the
Tigerscots to tie it, Torres hit
one o f two free throws and
a 3-pointer Kilkenny scored
off a rebound and Torres
scored off a pass from RJ
Farrens to make it 34-28
Kilkenny scored off a pass
from VanCleave to make it
36-30 and Torres hit a 3-
pointer to make it 39-32.

Kilkenny scored off
a rebound, but the Tigerscots
came back to take a 47-45
lead Kenny hit a baseline
jumper then Farrens hit a 3-
pointer to tie it at 505-50,
but the Tigerscots scored
seven straight to take a 57-
51 lead w ith 2 :2 0 left
VanCleave hit one o f two
free throws, Kenny scored
inside and then fed Kilkenny
for a lay-in with 1:07 left to
cut the lead to 58-55. The

straight until Gutierrez hit a
3-pointer to provide the final
margin
T orres led the
Mustangs with 21 points, six
rebounds and four steals,
with Kilkenny scoring 12

rebounds. VanCleave had 11
points, grabbed 11 rebounds
and had two assists. Kory
Paullus had five rebounds,
Farrens had two steals and
Gutierrez and Kenny each
had two assists.

score o f 53-41, on Tuesday,
Feb 8 in Athena Senior
guard Madison Bailey went
down with a torn ACL early
in the first quarter and will
be lost for the remainder o f
the season after just getting
back to form after early
season
surgery.
The
Mustangs fell to 7-4 in the
CBC and 15-5 overall, with
the loss
The Tigerscots took
a 6-3 lead early, but the
Mustangs came back to tie
it on a Megan Orr rebound
basket and a Terra Wilson
free throw Sarah Price hit

Tigerscots went on a run
taking a 14-8 lead after one.
W ilson hit one o f
two free throws and Linsey
M itchell hit tw o but the
Tigerscots increased the lead
to 22-11 before Orr fed Regi
Seitz for a basket and hit a
3-pointer to cut the lead to
22-16. Susan Southworth hit
two free throw s, but the
Tigerscots went on a 12-2
run before Mitchell scored
inside on a pass from Shanna
Rietmann then fed Seitz for
a lay-in to make it 34-22 at
the half
Wilson opened the
third with a rebound basket
and Rietmann hit a 3-pointer
to cut the lead to 34-27.
Wilson hit two free throws
and Southworth hit one of
two but the Tigerscots still
led 42-30 at the end o f three
Price scored o f a
rebound, but the Tigerscots
open up a 48-32 lead early
in the fo u rth , but the
Mustangs wouldn’t go away
as Rietmann hit a 3-pointer
and scored off a rebound and
Mitchell hit two free throws
to cut the lead to 48-39
After a free throw by the
Tigerscots, Orr got a steal
and a lay-in to cut the lead
to 49-41 with 1:35 left, but
the Tigerscots hit four o f six
free throws down the stretch
to seal the win
M itch ell led a
balanced scoring attack with
eight points, grabbed five
rebounds and had two steals,
with Rietmann adding eight
points and three assists. Orr
had seven points, five steals
and two assists, Wilson had
seven points, Southw orth
had nine rebounds and Price
had five rebounds

The Mustangs had a
10-7 lead after one, but
trailed 18-15 at the half,
despite eight points from
Peck. They rallied for a JO-
26 lead at the end of the third
quarter, but trailed by three
until D elveaux hit a 3-
pointer to tie it at 35-35 win
five minutes left Peck hit a
baseline jumper to tie it at
37-37, but the Tigers scored
four straight taking a 41-37
lead
Peck and Bailey each
scored off rebounds to tie it
at 41-41 with 2:15 left, then
after Stanfield hit one o f two
free throws, the Mustangs
got a steal and hit a short
jumper to give them a 43-42
lead with 1:53 left McCabe
hit a jumper with 1 26 left to
make it 45-42 and they hung
on for the win.
