Mustang JVs pick up win over Grant Union

A fter traveling to
C ulver and beatin g the
Bulldogs 49-40 on Tuesday,
Dec. 21, the H eppner
Mustang JV girls returned
home and lost in overtime to
the Grant Union Prospectors
by a score o f 41-34 on
T hursday, Dec 23. The
Mustangs, now 2 and 3 on
the year, will be off until
traveling to U m atilla on
Friday, Jan 7 and will be at
home on Saturday, Jan 8
against Sherman County
At C ulver, the
Mustangs trailed 12-9 after
one quarter despite four
points from Lynan Bingham
and a 3-pointer from Cyde
Coil They came back to tie
it at 23-23 at the half, getting
four second quarter points
each from Kylie Doherty,
W hitney M atth ew s and
Bingham.
The Mustangs pulled
away in the third taking a 38-
32 lead getting seven points
from Regi Seitz and four
from Katie Kilkenny They
extended the lead in the
fourth getting six points
from Doherty and four more
from Coil to take the 49-40
win
D oherty led the
M ustangs with 10 points
with Bingham adding nine
points, Seitz and Coil had
seven p o in ts each and
Matthews added six points
The
M ustangs
trailed 5-2 after one to the
Prospectors and 12-10 at the
half and still trailed 22-14
after three before making
their come back Seitz had
seven points, including a 3-
pointer with 10 seconds left
to pull the Mustangs into a
32-32 tie and send the game
into overtime

Mustang JV boys picked up
two wins winning 44-32 at
Culver on Tuesday, Dec 21
and retu rn in g hom e and
beating the G rant Union
P ro sp e c to rs 42-33 on
T hursday, Dec. 23 The
Mustangs, now 3 and 1 on
the year, will have some time
off before going to Umatilla
on Friday, Jan 7 and will be
back home on Saturday, Jan
8 to take on the Sherman
County Huskies.
The Mustangs took
an 8-6 lead after one at
C ulver getting four first
quarter points from Mikel
Britt and extended it to 21-
13 at the half getting seven
second quarter points from
Nacho Elguezabal They put
the game away in the third
getting eight points from
Britt and four more from
Elguezabal to push their lead
to 36-16, going into the
fourth quarter They coasted
through the fourth to take
the win
Elguezabal led the
M ustangs with 13 points,
with Britt adding 12 points
and Quinn Peck scoring six
points.
The Mustangs took
a slim 10-9 lead after one
over the Prospectors getting
six points, including a 3-
pointer, from Peck and four
points from Justin Delveaux
Peck had six points in the
second as the M ustangs
increased their lead to 22-13
at halftime Lane Bailey hit
a 3 -p o in te r in the third
quarter as they held onto a
27-20 lead after three Casey
Maben hit four o f four free
throws and Delveaux hit a 3-
pointer in the fourth as the
Mustangs coasted to the 42-
33 win.
