A view from the hill
By Doris Brosnan
Willow Creek Terrace residents certainly have
reasons for viewing this holiday season as an ongoing
celebration
The Thanksgiving Day feast, enjoyed by several
residents and their family members, was hardly over when
attention turned to “decking the halls with boughs of holly”
and other winter delights Thirty-five friends and family
joined the residents and staff for a potluck and trimming
party, at which Wendy Appleton played music, but work
on crafting additional decorating accents and tree ornaments
is continuing
C ontributions to the em bellishm ents include
outside-tree lights from the Burlesons and Cowetts, outdoor
building lights from the Jerry Bakers, angel ornaments from
the Nazarene Church ladies, ornaments from Floss Watkins
and Eve Blackhawk, and a swag from Merlyn Robinson.
Other gifts adding to the joy o f the season are the new flag
from the American Legion, Keith-Price cards from Arnie
Appleton, games from the lone Catholic Church and fruits
and vegetables from Merlyn Robinson, A1 Riney, Frank
Skaggs, Nick Broun, Meligans, Cheri Logan, Gene Orwick
and the Bob Taylors The community is always welcome
to come for a visit and a view o f what wonders the
decorating has created
On Dec 2, eight residents braved the cold as they
went downtown for the delightful light parade and seven
residents traveled with the Bob Jepsens to lone for the
Willow Creek Chorale and Symphony concert on Dec. 6.
The Terrace has accepted the invitation to judge the
Heppner Lighting Contest this year, so residents will be
going out and about this week for a view' o f the many
residential and business decorations, ready to make some
difficult decisions.
The ongoing celebration at the Terrace will feature
several musical treats this month. The 01’ Time Fiddlers,
frequent visitors, will entertain. The Shamrockettes will
strut their synchronized stuff. Members o f the Catholic and
Christian churches will come a-caroling And the Heppner
High School Spanish class members plan to entertain with
their singing o f carols in Spanish, as they share some of
their class art work.
The Terrace staff, making sure that Santa does not
miss a single resident who has been good this year, is excited
for Christmas morning, when residents will open their gifts
and stockings
Just days after St. Nick’s visit, the residents will
gather again, with mixed emotions They will have a going-
away party for Floyd Raver, who is moving to Coeur
d’Alene, ID As they view Raver’s good nature and sense
o f humor as great additions to the atmosphere at the
Terrace, the other residents and staff regret his leaving.
They will, however, be celebrating these very qualities and
thanking Raver for having included them in his life in
