H e p p n e r’s first O k to b e rfe st offered the T errace s ta ff th eir first venture into a cake-baking co n test T heir cherry- accented entry took first place in the taste test and the resid en ts to o k the prize money on a shopping spree The te rra c e now has a crystal, pedestal, covered cake plate and sundae- d essert dishes Both purchases will enhance the many special celebrations at Willow Creek Terrace Twice on the weekend o f Oktoberfest, the creativ e resid en ts w ere rew ard ed for their participation in community’s activities. They also were awarded “bragging rights” w ith th e ir entry in the “ w e lco m in g -scarecro w s contest.” Manager George Naims reports that many, many vehicles cruised by the Terrace for a look at the menagerie of party creatures at the entry. When the votes were counted, the Terrace had won recognition and a photo o f the residents featured in the Gazette. The family moved to Payette, ID, when Jefferies was about seven years old. He remembers not having to take school w ork home because he was able to stay ahead Arithmetic was his forte He moved on to several types of jobs, but a long-lasting and pleasurable one was his glass-cutting work that took him to several states His largest one assignment was a job on the Kona Coast, HI Jefferies’ work was set aside during the war, when he enlisted into the Navy. He was assigned fueling duties for the USS Traw and believes that his life w as spared on the morning of the Pearl Harbor attack because that ship was at sea instead o f anchored. Featured am ong som e m em orabilia in Jefferies’ apartment are an extensive collection o f hats and a selection o f horse statuary, reflecting his life­ long interest in riding, which goes back to a blind Shetland pony he rode as a child. Jefferies continues to spend part o f each day on a m orning w alk, easily traveling over tw o miles each day. He enjoys music and dancing and singing in particular. Soon after Thanksgiving, on Nov. 29, Willow Creek Terrace will take on a new look for the Christmas-Hanukah- Holiday season Residents and staff invite community members to join them for a potluck at 5:30 p m. and to stay for the tree-trimming and hall-decking that will follow. The Terrace will provide drinks and dessert.
