It was a very warming (par
don the pun) experience to see
all the people show up in our
time o f need during the
Eightmile fire. The amount of
effort was amazing. The fire
fighting organizations, from
Heppner, lone, Condon, and
the BLM were fabulous in ex
ecution, and use of their equip
ment.
Our local farmer contingent
was also very much com
mended. Everything from a
shovel to a water tanker was
here in a very timely fashion.
As everyone knows, this place
is about as far away as any
from the fire fighting base.
The 911 staff did an excel
lent job referring information
to the fire boss, and he sent the
troops where needed. Not
knowing the origin of the fire
is somewhat concerning, but
nothing of great value was lost.
It could have been much worse.
It had to be on a heat advi
sory day!
