DA’s Report Gregg Robert Bitgood was convicted of three counts of Assault-4, Sec. 3, a Class-C felony and one count of Criminal Mistreatment-1, a Class-C felony. Bitgood was sentenced to three years supervised probation, 90 days in jail, 80 hours community service, completion of an Anger Management program and payment of $2164. Jeffrey Macomber was convicted of Child Neglect in the Second Degree, a Class-A misdemeanor. Macomber was sentenced to 24 months bench probation, completion of parenting classes, completion of a misdemeanor alcohol treatment package to be administered by Morrow County Behavioral Health and payment of $474 in fines and fees. Kenneth Marion Stookey was convicted of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a Class-C felony reduced to a Class-A misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 180 suspended days in jail, two years bench probation, 40 hours of community service and payment of $626 in fines and fees. Brent Michael Smith admitted to violation of probation allegations for Rape in the Third Degree. Smith’s probation was revoked and he was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 24 months probation. K elty, 74, formerly of Irrigon, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at E vergreen V ista H ealth Center in La Grande. At her request, no service w ill be held. D isp o sitio n was by cremation. Kelty was bom Sept. 16, 1929 at Portland, to W illard and A lice C rall Keeney. She grew up and attended schools at Condon where she graduated from high school in 1949. She m et her husband-to-be, Edward O. Kelty, while he was working as a lineman for an electrical utility company. The couple married on July 11, 1949 at Walla Walla. Mr. K e lty ’s occupation took the couple to locations throughout the N o rth w est and A laska, where they lived for many years. They had also been residents of Heppner and The Dalles before retiring to Irrigon. Mr. Kelty died on Sept. 20, 2003. K elty enjoyed snowmobiling, riding horses and crocheting. Survivors include a son, Larry Kelty in Idaho; a g ran d so n , B illy K elty; sisters, Bessie Lamoreaux of R enton, WA and B illie Lacey of Heppner; brothers, Ralph Keeney of The Dalles and W illiam K eeney o f K lam ath Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; a sister, Loa Snyder; and brothers, Jack Keeney and Harold Keeney. Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of arrangements. Floyd J. Hobbs Floyd J. Hobbs, 90, of Irrigon, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. A funeral service was held Aug. 21 at Bums M ortuary Chapel. Burial followed at D esert Lawn M em orial C em etery in Irrigon. H obbs w as born April l l , 19 14, at North Pow der to Frank and Georgia Knowlton Hobbs. He lived most of his younger years in the North Powder area, working for farmers on local ranches. He moved to the Hermiston area to help build the U m atilla Army Depot. He married Bessie Dexter at Weiser, ID on Aug. 11, 19 4 1. They had five sons and a daughter. After a brief illness, Bessie died in July 1959. Hobbs returned to work for the depot until he retired in 1972. He married Gladys Hughes, an Irrigon school teacher, on March 14, 1962. They added two daughters to the family. Hobbs was active in sports during his high school years, playing football and basketball. He continued his in terest in sports as his children participated during their school years. In recent years, he had been active in the Stokes Landing Senior Center Rest Area project, making sure the tra ile r used fo r the project was well stocked and ready. He co n tin u ed his interest in sports during his retirem en t th ro u g h the media. He seldom missed a Mariners or Blazers game and enjoyed w atch in g football, golf, auto racing and m ore. He had been looking forw ard to the Olympics. In April, family and friends surprised him with a 90lh birthday party. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, of Irrigon; sons, Daryl Hobbs and wife, Ginny, of Colorado Springs, CO, Lynn Hobbs and wife, Cheryl, o f Irrigon, Allyn Hobbs and wife, Glenda, of Shoshone, ID, and Byron Hobbs and wife, Terri, of Portland; daughters, Vicky Mesteth and husband, Vem, of Umatilla, Jyl Hobbs of Irrigon and Becky Hobbs of Canby; sister, Leora Nice of La G rande; nine grandchildren and 15 great­ g ran d ch ild ren . Arlene Evelyn Correa A rlene E velyn C o rrea, 86, o f Big Buttercreek near Echo, died Aug. 19, 2004, at home. R ecitatio n o f the Rosary was held Aug. 23, with a funeral mass held Aug. 24. Burial followed at Echo Cemetery in Echo. C o rrea was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Medford to E dw ard and Leone Southward Nunn. She was raised and attended schools in Hermiston and later in Echo. She married John B. Correa on Sept. 16, 1936 in Echo. They ranched near Echo and Starkey. She was a member of the Starkey Cattle and H orse A sso ciatio n . Burns Mortuary of H erm iston is in care o f arrangements. Clarence D. “Tiny” Gerard Clarence D. “Tiny” Gerard, 71, of Hermiston, died on Aug. 20, 2004 at his home. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Hermiston Eagles Lodge #2909. G erard was born Jan. 16, 1933 in Lexington to Ernest and Wilma Morris Gerard. He joined the United States Army and served with the rank of private in Korea. He w orked as a d iesel m echanic at B o n n ev ille Dam for the US Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years. Gerard also sold Watkins Products for many years. Gerard had lived in Hermiston for the last 15 years. He en jo y ed socializing, traveling, his family and his friends. He was a member of the Ocean Park Eagles and Hermiston Eagles #2909, where he was a trustee for several years. Survivors include his b ro th e rs, L aw rence Gerard of Goldendale, WA, Walter Gerard of Irrigon and R obert G erard of Herm iston; stepdaughter, Robin Toavas of Pasco, WA; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Burns Mortuary of H erm iston is in care o f arrangements. Sally Lois Klukkert Sally Lois Klukkert, 63, of Hermiston, died Aug. 11, 2004 of natural causes while vacationing in Tok, AK. A celebration of life serv ice w ill be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hermiston Arc B u ild in g , 215 W. Orchard Ave., Hermiston, with a potluck to follow. Private inurnment will be at a later date. She was bom May 18, 1941 in Stanfield, to Charles and Opal Geer. She was raised and attended schools in Fossil, graduating from Fossil High School in 1959. Klukkert worked for F irst In te rsta te B ank at several branches in Oregon including Hermiston. She was united in m arriage to Jam es “Jim ” Klukkert on Oct. 11,1975 in V ancouver, WA. They m oved to the H erm iston area in 1978 and have lived there since. She ow ned and operated S and J Ceramics in H erm iston in the mid 1990s. She then worked at B ank o f A m erica until retiring in 2001. K lu k k ert loved bowling, quilting, camping, fishing, crafts and spending time with her family.
