    Spit your way to fame at the
Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest
The Hermiston
Watermelon Seed Spitting
Contest will be held at the
Morrow County Fair
Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 1
p.m. It is sponsored by the
Hermiston Watermelon
Growers.
Spit your way into
fame by entering the contest!
Regulations are: 1) each
contestant will select three
competition-spitting seeds
for entry. The longest
distance of any one seed spit
will be judged as the final
score. 2) Seed spitting
contestants will be divided
into four flights for scoring:
men’s, women’s, youth (8-
15 years), and children
(under 8 years old). 3)
Athletes may run toward the
spit-off line, hold a firm
position, stand or sit. NO
extraordinary elevations will
be allowed. All competition
seeds must fall within the
designated playing field.
Awards are: first
place winners in all four
divisions will receive a
commemorative Hermiston
W atermelon
Lover’s
Championship t-shirt with
emblazoned stars. Second
and third place winners in all
four divisions will receive a
commemorative Hermiston
W atermelon
Lover’s
Cham pionship t-shirt
without stars.

the week

Support your fair; kiss a pig
Support your favorite
Fair & Rodeo Court
members by donating to see
your choice “kiss a pig.” The
proceeds will go towards the
co m m u n ity /d o rm ito ry
building. The building will
be used for 4-H kids during
fair and in connection with
other dates and activities. It
will also be used as a
halftime team room for high
school and junior high
games. A snack shack will
be installed in the storage
room area of the building.
The planned public access
toilets and showers will
enhance the use of arenas.
Containers will be at
the fair office, deposit your
money for your favorite one
or two. The winner(s) will
get to “Kiss A Pig” during
the 4-H Awards ceremony
on Saturday Night at 4:30
p.m. The court members are:
Queen Lexi Kennedy,
Princesses
Jessica
Wainwright and Emily
Bergstrom, Pennant Bearers
MaKayla Anderson and
Amanda Kennedy.
Demonstrations will
be held at the fair throughout
the week. Dancing and
tumbling
will
be
dem onstrated by many
youths of Morrow County.
On
Thursday
dancers from Performing
Arts at 12:30 a.m. will
provide a half-hour
performance. Everyone is
also invited to come see the
Heppner Shamrockettes
perform at the fair on Friday
at 6 p.m.; and then Cindy
Sumner and her group of
tumblers will perform at
6:30 p.m. on Friday
