Irrigon on Friday, April 9.

Mustang JVs blank Eagles

T he
H eppner
M ustang JV s used solid
pitching and good hitting to
blank the visiting Wahtonka
Eagles 13-0 in five innings on
M onday, A pril 19. The
Mustangs, now 4 and 2, will
be at home against Grant
Union on Friday, April 23 for
a doubleheader at 11 a.m. and
at home against the Hermiston
Frosh on Monday, April 26 at
4 p.m.
The Mustangs jumped
out-to a quick 4-0 lead after
one as Quinn Peck walked,
Cody Hollis was hit by a pitch,
Dan Basile reached on an
error, Sloan Keithley scored
two runs with a single, Riley
Wight walked, Robbie Smith
scored a run on a fielder’s
choice and Wight ended up
scoring on a wild pitch.
They didn’t stop there
are they put another four runs
on the board in the second
when Peck singled and went
to second on an error, Hollis
had a RBI single and stole
second, Basile had a RBI
single, Kyle Carlson singled

and Smith scored two more
with a double to make it 8-0.
In the third, Kody
Lovgren led off with a single.
Peck walked, Basile had a two
RBI double and T ravis
Eubanks had a RBI single to
make it 11 -0. They added two
insurance runs in the fourth
when Hanson was hit by a
pitch, went to second on a wild
pitch and scored on a single
by Lovgren. Then, Peck
singled Lovgren to third and
he scored when Eubanks^
grounded out.
Meanwhile, Keithley
pitched a com plete game
three-hit shutout striking out
eleven and giving up just two
walks.
Basile went two for
three with three RBI and three
runs scored. Peck went two
for two with three runs scored.
Lovgren went two for three,
scoring twice. Smith had three
RBI and a double, Keithley
and Eubanks had two RBI and
Hollis scored twice.

the Wahtonka Eagles 24-3 on
Friday, April 9. The Mustangs
are 1 and 0.
The Mustangs jumped
out to a 9-0 lead in the top of
the first as Quinn Peck led off
with a triple and scored on a
wild pitch. Then Dan Basile
walked, Kyle Carlson was hit
by a pitch, Sloan Keithley
walked and Riley Wight hit a
three RBI double. Robbie
Smith walked, Cody Hollis

Mustangs beat Eagles

The
H ep p n er
M ustang baseball team
finished up their pre-season
schedule with a 15-4 five-
inning win over the Wahtonka
Eagles on Tuesday, April 13
in The Dalles. The Mustangs,
now 9-0-1, still have a non
league doubleheader with
Regis on May 1 in The Dalles
but begin Columbia Basin
Conference play on Saturday,
April 16.
The Mustangs got a
run in the top of the first when
Chuy Elguezabal was hit by a
pitch, stole second and scored
on Jode Coil’s double. The
Eagles came back with a run
in the bottom half to tie it, but
the Mustangs came back with
four runs in the second to take
the lead for good. Luke

three times. Peck went three
for five with a triple and scored
four times. Carlson went two
for four with two RBI and four
runs scored. Lovgren went
two for three with three RBI,
Basile went two for four with
two RBI, Smith went two for
four and Eubanks scored four
runs.

game away in the fourth when
Kory Paullus led off with a
home run, Naims walked and
went to third on a double by
Murray, Lovgren walked,
Christman hit a sac fly to score
Naims, Walton had a two RBI
single, Elguezabal singled,
Quinn Peck had a RBI single
and Zach Skaggs had a RBI
single to make it 15-1.
The Eagles scored a
run in the bottom half and
added two more in the fifth but
it wasn’t enough to keep the
game going.
Lovgren went two for
two with two doubles and
three runs scored. Walton
went two for two with three
RBI and three runs scored.
Murray went two for two with
a double and scored twice.
Coil went two for three with
two RBI, Paullus went two for
three with a home run and
Elguezabal went one for one
and scored three times.
Coil went the distance
on the mound striking out five
and scattering seven hits to

Mustangs JVs split with Stanfield

The
H eppner
Mustang JV baseball team
dropped the first game 4-3,
but came back to win the
nightcap 17-16 against the
Stanfield Tigers on Monday,
April 12 in Stanfield. The
Mustangs now 2 and 1 are at
home on Friday, April 23 for
a doubleheader against Grant
Union beginning at 11 am. and
at home against the Hermiston
Frosh on Monday, April 26 at
4 p.m.
The Mustangs gave
the Tigers three runs in the first
inning committing three errors
and the score stayed that way
through the fourth inning. In the
top of the fifth. Dan Basile hit
a two-out double to score
Kody L ovgren who had
reached on an error. Kyle
Carlson tripled to score Basile
and scored on a passed ball
to tie it at 3-3.
The
M ustangs
threatened in the top half of the
sixth, getting the bases loaded
but couldn’t score, but the
Tigers did in the bottom half
to steal the win.
C arlso n w ent the
d istan ce on the m ound
allowing just four hits while
striking out five, giving up one
earned run.
Carlson, Basile and
Quinn Peck each went two for
four as the Mustangs out hit
the Tigers 8-4.
The second game was
a d iffe re n t story as the
Mustangs jumped out to an 8-
0 lead a fte r one. Peck
walked, Cody Hollis was hit
by a pitch, Basile had a RBI
single, Carlson a RBI double
and Sloan Keithley score two
more with a double. Riley
Wight had a RBI single,
Robbie Smith reached on an
e rro r and C ody H anson
walked. Then two runs were
scored when Peck reached on
an error and Hollis had a RBI
single.
The Mustangs led 8-
2 going into the fourth when
Wight singled. Smith walked,
Hanson was hit by a pitch,
Lovgren had a RBI single and
Peck scored two more with a
single to make it 11-2.
They added two more
in the fifth when Basile tripled
and scored when Carlson
reached on a fielder’s choice
and Keithley got a RBI single.
The Tigers came back
with 10 runs in the fifth, seven
after there were two out to get
within 13-12. The Mustangs
came back in the top of the
sixth as Lovgren doubled and
scored on a Peck triple, Basile
had a RBI double and Keithley
had an RBI single to put them
up 16-12.
The Tigers came back
with two runs in the sixth, but
the M ustangs added an
insurance run in the seventh
when Hanson reached on an
error and came around to
score a Peck single. The
Tigers scored two more in the
seventh but could get no
closer as the Mustangs held on
for the win.
Peck w ent three
innings to pick up the win
allowing just two hits and led
the way at the plate going three
for four with four RBI and
scoring three runs. Keithley
went three for five with four
RBI and Wight went three for
five. Basile went three for six
with two RBI and scored three
runs. Lovgren went two for
five, Carlson had two RBI and
Hanson scored three runs.

Lake water to be sold for irrigation
The Army Corps of
Engineers and the Bureau of
R eclam atio n are now
accepting applications for
irrigation water from the
W illow C reek Dam this
summer.
Irrigation water was
also sold last summer to
irrigators downstream of the
dam. The cost will be
$8 per a c re -fe e t plus
ad m in istra tio n
fees.
Applications need to be turned
in by May 15.
The water has been
made available because of
drought conditions declared
by Oregon G overnor Ted
Kulongoski on March 31,
2004.
