Doris Aliena Davis
Doris Aliena Davis,
80, of Irrigon, died Friday,
April 16,2004, at an Irrigon
Foster Care Home.
A funeral service was
held in the chapel at Bums
Mortuary on April 20, with a
graveside service following at
the Lexington Cemetery in
Lexington.
She was born on
Sept. 27,1923 in Heppner to
Ralph and Elma (M oore)
Scott. She graduated from
Lexington High School in
1941. After graduation she
moved to Pendleton and took
a sec re ta ria l course at
Pendleton FieldAirba.se. She
then moved to Portland where
she worked in the office at the
shipyards for a couple of years
b efore m oving back to
Pendleton where she married
Clayton T. Davis in 1946 and
raised their family. She was a
housewife while her children
were young and then went to
work for the Oregon Revenue
Service until retirement.
Survivors include son
and daughter-in-law, Ted and
Mary Ann Davis, son, Cary
Davis, all of Heppner, and
daughter and son-in-law,
Martha and Bill Gover of
Boardman; siblings, Aileen
Nisbet of Wasco and Bill Scott
of
H eppner;
nine
grandchildren and four great-
' g ran d ch ild ren . She was
preceded in death by husband
Clayton in 1993, her parents,
one sister and two infant sons.

James H. Cooper
James H. Cooper, 75,
of Heppner, died Friday, April
16, 2004, at P ioneer
M em orial H ospital in
Heppner.
A military graveside
service will be held at 1 p.m.
on Saturday, April 24, at the
Glendale Memorial Cemetery
in his hometown of Glendale,
OR. A memorial service will
be held at the Heppner Elks
Lodge at 1 p.m., Saturday,
May 1.
C ooper was born
Aug. 5,1928, at Oneida, TN,
to Fred and Polly Burke
Cooper. When he was 7 years
old, he moved with his family
to Glendale where he attended
school.
He enlisted in the
Coast Guard in 1947, and then
entered the Navy SeaBees
serving as a heavy equipment
operator. He served three
tours of duty in Vietnam.
During his combat tour of
Vietnam, he earned three
Purple Hearts and a Silver
Star. After active duty, he
served with the Reserve from
1973-1975.
He
was
honorably discharged after 27
years of service.
He married Ellen F.
Gallo in 1949 at Seattle. The
couple lived at Glendale where
C ooper was the ch ief of
police. They were parents of
a daughter, Marsha. They later
divorced.
He m et B lanche
Foster in 1974. The couple
were married in 1976 and
lived at Redmond. After her
death, he moved to Heppner
where he has lived for the past
15 years with his friend and
companion Donna Hammack.
He was said to have a
great love and pride in his
country.
He was a life member
of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 1408 in Redmond
and was also a member of the
American Legion and the Elks.
He enjoyed hunting,
fishing and gardening. He
loved his family and friends and
enjoyed spending time with his
dogs.
Survivors include his
daughter, Marsha Burden and
husband, Allen, of Portland;
granddaughters, M ichelle
Freeman and Summer Ringo,
and three great-grandchildren;
co m panion,
D onna
Hammack; and sisters, Laura
June P ickerd and A lta
Schipper. He was preceded in
death by wife, Blanche Foster
Cooper, his parents and by
brothers, Charlie and George.

Monahan is survived
by her husband. Dominic, five
children, two grandchildren
and other relatives.
