TLC Daycare to open in April
Couple to travel around the world

reopen her hom e to children
and run T L C D aycare. T he
daycare will begin receiving
children April 2.
T he daycare w ill be
o p e n fo r c h ild re n a g e s 6
weeks to 11 years. Clem ent is
a registered childcare provider
and is looking into becom ing
certified so that she can have
m o re in f a n t o p e n in g s .
Currently, she can only have
two infants at a time.

daycare will be provided with

structured schedule that will

throughout the world beginning
in May and won’t be returning
home until October 2005, said
S haw ’s m other, Linda Shaw,

their hom e and plan to visit

interest starting in the C zech
R epublic and then spanning
the globe, ending their travels
in Cuba. Fam ily m em bers o f

Halvorsen chosen to attend Gamma
Phi Beta convention
A fter a long winter,
Allison Halvorsen finished her
first te rm as p re s id e n t o f
G am m a Phi B eta sorority at
the University o f Oregon. She
was voted unanim ously by
m em bers and w ill serve as
p re s id e n t u n til D e c e m b e r
2004.
Halvorsen was one of
only 10 in the nation chosen
to attend the G am m a Phi Beta
L e a d e rsh ip C o n v e n tio n in
C hicago, IL in June o f this
year. H alvorsen is currently a
ju n io r at the U niversity o f
O regon w orking on a degree
in fam ily and hum an services
a n d h a s f u tu r e p la n s o f
attending University o f Oregon
Law School.
W hen she is not busy
with school or her sorority, she
c o a c h e s a s ix th g r a d e
basketball team , w orks as a
nanny and volunteers at the
A lpine S prings R etirem ent
Center.
She is a 2001 graduate
o f lone H igh School and the
daughter o f Frank and C athy

“W hen my husband’s
father was diagnosed it was
pretty hard for the family but 1
feel that the diagnosis has
actually brought the fam ily
c lo s e r,” C o rre a said . She
added that they spend m ore
time together and try to lessen
his stress.
“ In the beginning we
studied as m uch as we could
about the disease. I know it
was very frustrating for him. He
spent about a year going from
d o cto r to d o cto r before he
was diagnosed,” said Correa.
“ H e w as actu ally reliev ed
because he could start doing
something about.”
C o rrea also has an
uncle w ith M S and has seen
first hand the life changing
challenges that seem to happen
overnight.
“ We w alk to m ake a
difference, and to ensure that
scientists continue to get the
funding they require,” stated
C o rre a . “ I w o u ld lik e to
challenge everyone to com e
walk on April 17 in Heppner.”
