Ione JV boys lose to Echo

In a close two quarter game the lone Cardinal JV boys
losi to Echo at Echo on Saturday, Feb.3.
Both teams scored six points in the first quarter. In the
second quarter, the Pirates m ade 10 points and lone nine
points, losing 15-16.
Dan Long and John W alton led the team w ith four
points each. Dan Satterly, Arthur Ekstrom and Cody Keisling
had two points each. Brian Bunch added one point.
Coach Jim Sw anson said, ' “This was a close gam e. I
wish we could have played four quarters.”
lone JV girls defeat Echo

The lone Cardinal JV girls defeated the Echo Cougars
at Echo on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The C ardinals w ere only ahead by tw o points at the
end of the first quarter, 6-4. By holding Echo to two points in
the second quarter, lone led 13-6 at halftim e. E cho’s defense
cam e back in the third quarter and decreased the C ardinals’
lead, 19-16. In the fourth quarter, lo n e becam e m ore
aggressive with a 15-6 run and won the gam e 34-22.
A m ber Patton led the team w ith eight points. Abby
Key, Kim Morris, Kayla LaRue and Alyssa Rietmann had six
points each. Stephanie Holland and TinaTuzarova added one
point each.
Holland led with nine rebounds and one assist. Patton
had six rebounds, four steals and one assist; Ashley G ram s
had three rebounds, tw o steals and two assists; Tuzarova had
tw o rebounds and tw o steals; L aR ue had tw o rebounds;
Rietmann had one rebound and two steals; Key had two steals
and sour assists, and Sim one Reisenbauer had one steal.
This was a good team effort.

T he lone C ardinal varsity boys w alloped C entral
C hristian at R edm ond on Saturday, Feb. 7.
lone started slow and only led by two points, 14-12,
at the end o f the first quarter. In the second quarter, they had a
17-2 run; then another 21-7 run in the third quarter. The game
ended with a big 63-30 win for the Cardinals. The entire team
contributed to this win.
T yler B row n led the team w ith 16 points, including
one three-point field goal. Others contributing to the win were
Nick Christman with 13 points; Kelly Thompson with 12 points,
including one three-point field goal; Tyler Raible with three
points; D an L ong w ith one three-point field goal; W illiam
Bergstrom with one three-point field goal; Arthur Ekstrom with
two points; and John Walton with one point.

In a tw o quarter gam e at lone on Friday, Feb. 6, the
lone C ardinal JV girls dow ned the C ascade Locks Pirates.
The first quarter ended with the Cardinals in the lead
by tw o points, 6-4. In the second quarter, lone outscored the
Pirates 18-7, w inning the gam e 24-13.
Amber Patton led the team with 12 points. Kim Morris
had six points; A bby Key four; and Tina T uzarova had tw o
points.

In a close gam e at Echo on Tuesday, Feb 3, the lone
Cardinal varsity boys edged out the Echo C ougars 32-30.
The C ardinals got o ff to a slow start and at halftim e
w ere behind 14-6. They cam e alive in the third quarter and
shot 12 points in the first four minutes. They added six points
in the next four m inutes, ending the quarter ahead 24-21.
The score was 32-30 at the end o f the fourth quarter
and lone fouled just as the buzzer sounded. Echo missed both
shots and lone won the game.
N ick C hristm an led the C ardinals w ith 14 points.
Others adding points were Tyler Brown with eight; Tyler Raible
with four; and Curtis Thompson, Kelly Thom pson and Arthur
Ekstrom with two points each. lone out-rebounded Echo 23-
13.

winning the game 65-52.
The C ardinals were led by Kelly Thom pson with 26
points. Tyler Brown had 17 points, including tw o three-point
field goals, and N ick C hristm an had 10 points. O thers
contributing were Tyler Raible with seven points; Dan Satterly
with one three-point field goal; and Curtis Thompson with two
points.

assists. Kelly Thom pson had five rebounds, six steals and one

The lone Lady Cardinals varsity traveled to Echo on
Tuesday, Feb. 3, and played a great defensive game. The Lady
C ougars are a tough team to play, but lone held them to 23
points and led throughout the game, winning 40-23.
Natalie M cElligott led the Lady Cards with 15 points.
A shly G ram s and Eva Chitty added six points each. O thers
contributing were Sara Peck with five points; Barbara Holland
with four; and Em ily Key and A m ber Patton with tw o points
each.
M cElligott also led with nine rebounds, three steals
and three assists. Peck had three rebounds and tw o steals;
B arbara H olland had three rebounds and one steal; Patton
had three rebounds and one assist; Chitty had two rebounds,
four steals and tw o assists; Key had one rebound, four steals
and tw o assists; and Stephanie Holland had one rebound.
