Dir. Isn’t it great that we see the sun periodically to remind us that it’s still there? If we did not know sadness, we would not appreciate happiness; if we had never done without, we w ould not appreciate having; and w ithout experiencing darkness, we w ouldn’t appreciate the light. As 2004 begins, we will hope for balance in all things. D uring C ham ber last w eek, people expressed their gratitude for G ary Wight, who voluntarily kept m any o f the Heppner sidewalks free o f snow with his own equipment during our winter storm. If you visited outlying communities, you would have realized how very lucky we were to have the sidewalks, streets and highw ays cared for. O ther counties and tow ns w eren’t so fortunate. Our volunteers and city/county workers are to be com m ended. The C ham ber o f Com m erce Board o f Directors and Officers for 2004 are: President- Victor Vander Does, Pioneer Memorial Hospital; Vice-President- Brenda Sherrell, Sherrell Insurance; Second V-P- N ancy G ochnauer, Jo h n ’s Place, Bucknum’s, The Video Store and newly started Fitness Center; Treasurer- Barbara Hayes; and Directors- Larry Lutcher, OSU Extension; John Murray, M urray’s Drug; Bert H ouw eling, Central Red Apple; Nancy Snider, W heatland Insurance and Dave Sykes, Heppner Gazette. These individuals are Chamber volunteers working to create a positive environment in which business, community and people thrive. They will be committing W ednesday, Feb. 11 to setting goals for the C ham ber year and appreciate hearing ideas from all o f you prior to that date. Drop by the Cham ber O ffice on M onday through W ednesday to visit. W here is the C ham ber office? The Chamber is still occupying the same office behind the old bank, due to the generosity o f Bank o f Eastern Oregon. There is a message machine, 676-5536, which is checked on most days the office is not occupied. E-m ails can also be sent to heppnercham ber@ centurytel.net. The Board m em bers are available to answ er questions. Soon all brochures that w ere available in the bank will be available in the Cham ber Office. As spring gets closer, volunteers are needed in the office to answ er the phone, greet visitors, stu ff envelopes, send out parade entries, etc. Interested persons are asked to please drop by the office or call.
