dreaming about what to buy for Christmas during the remaining
few days, take notice that the hottest Christmas gift items
supposedly are electronic gadgets. No wonder this nation has
become the land of expanding waistlines. Now there are robotic
vacuum cleaners and lawn mowers. All the electronic gadgetry
available leaves me shaking my head and wondering if we need
all these toys. Various hand-held cell phones are also cameras
that also have e-mail access, plus mobile versions o f popular
Windows applications and are topped off by musical ring tones
for your amusement. Then there’s a hybrid cell phone with an

with deep pockets. We now have tracking devices in vehicles
that pinpoint locations and provide drivers with a navigational

drivers if roads are embedded with navigational chips.
At home, if you’re a sophisticated television viewer
you know all about “Ti Vo,” a set-top box known as a digital
video recorder (DVR). This allows a viewer to rewind and
watch any program whenever they want and to skip past
commercials without rerecording it on video.
Perhaps there should be a microchip placed in every
new born child. Not only would it be easier for parents to keep
track o f wandering offspring and save a lot o f footwear, it
could also lessen the abduction o f children. Unfortunately, when
they become adults, some people want to cover their tracks.
So never mind if your gift buying is at low ebb for this
holiday season. If your focus is on the meaning o f the season
and helping others, you are definitely on the right track,
electronically or not. Happy Holidays.
